Raw Talent Inc is a full service manufacturing facility based out of Bethlehem, GA. Started in 2002 out of the bedroomof it’s founders apartment it has grew into a major competitor with sales north of the multi-million dollar range. Today I interviewed the Founder/Ceo Cody Murray and he had a lot to say on the trends in the fashion industry and what he sees amongst the brands in the industry that are successful. Some of the questions answered are below with more on the Ceo Audio.
- What similarities do you see amongst the brands that you work with that are more successful in the apparel industry?
- What new applications in design as far as screen printing, embroidery and manufacturing do you see yourself incorporating into your business due to demand/or popularity? (i.e.. all over print, new inks etc..) He really went in depth on this question talking about All-over print process and new printing techniques, minimums for the process and etc.
- You were a successful sales rep before starting Raw Talent Inc what tips or advice could you give to someone just starting out trying to sell their line at a trade show or to a buyer?
- From a manufacturers point of view what should a new clothing company have financially in order to produce their first few seasons? Or what should they expect cost wise to get the ball rolling with their new collection?
- What forms of marketing/promotion has worked best for the Raw talent Inc?
- What are alternative ways to finance a clothing line when traditional ways of finding capital are not available?
And much, much, more… this interview ran pretty long and is packed with a lot of information on how to start a clothing line.

Just listened to the interview. a lot of good info for people just starting out and those that have been around a while. there was one section where he mentioned what things someone looking to start a business should do first that everyone should pay really close attention to, (especially the first thing). This info will save you crazy $$$$$$ if you do what he says and work the tax benefits that this tip gives you. I think it one thing that seperates the successful people. Also, i have no affiliation with raw talent at all, but i guarantee you will look forever to find a business that offers everything that they have to offer and they seem very down to working with start-ups and giving advise to you to make you successful. if you havent found out already that is very rare in this cut throat industry.

thanks for those kind words…I wrote about how they are willing to work with startups in a right up I did about them…I worked with them when I first started out…glad you enjoyed the audio…more to come.

It’s really great that someone has taken the lead to find a gap in the market and fill it with a service like this. You write that you worked with them when you first started out, at what point did you “outgrow” an operation like that?

Yeah CEO, that was dope, really good questioning either. And I heard your voice louder than the first time.
You know where to find me. Craig

Miracle….What I meant by when I first started out was in my beginning stages of even being in the fashion industry..I didn’t outgrow them they work with operations 10times larger than me…like disney…So far I have worked with 5 different manufacturers as far as anything I have produced or received information from…by the end of my career I might work with many more….the guy who owns Raw Talent is one of my good friends.

Loved the interview, your questions are poinant - focused on educating people from the little-spoken-about inside world of the apparel industry.
Cody’s voice was very clear, but yours was *slightly* too quiet - a more normalised audio level would be great!
Will definitely check out your other installations of the CEO Audio series.
Much love.

Hey Fred,
I received an MP3 file via email and played in Windows Media Player. I’m based in Australia, so the MP3 download was better than the conference call access.

I think this is one of my favorite interviews. He made some pretty important points I think. Some of the ones I thought were insightful were as follows:
1. He said it’s important that you have to actually believe that have something that the retailer/customer wants.
2. Having a story behind your product helps to initiate dialogue.
3. Underground is where the market is heading, having a celebrity wear you clothes is great, but it can lead to creating a sense that your company is only a fad.
4. Internet is very important for a company today.
5. Know how to run a business, if you don’t know connect with someone that does.
