Uhdiktiv is a new sponsor of Dobizo.com and as always we give each sponsor an unbiased review of their product or service. If you would like to sponsor Dobizo visit our advertise page.

On the surface Uhdiktiv is another Karmaloop’s Kazbah or Drjays Street Swag, but after speaking with the owner this is actually going to be for the independent brand, artist or designer and/or startup that isn’t qualified for the other online shops that swear by the idea of only accepting startup brands, artist or designers when most that they carry have been in business for a few years.

What’s This All About?

Uhdiktiv pronounced (A-dik-tiv) is an online shop where brands, artist, and designers can setup a store to sell there goods and benefit off of the traffic generated by Uhdiktiv’s advertising, promotions, and marketing. Each store pays a commission and monthly rent for your store space in exchange of selling and having your extension on the http://www.uhdiktiv.com/(your store). What are some of the benefits?

I hate sewing personally and it was never any fun for me in college, but it was part of the curriculum I remember a few pieces we did including shirts, skirts, and pants. While constructing skirts and having to incorporate pleats in the process to manipulate it into a narrower skirt.

Pleats are sometimes placed at the bottom of skirts and is a folded/tucked back piece of fabric that is either stitched or held/pressed in place to bring out fullness. There are different methods for creating pleats, but the simplest for me was pinning, ironing, and stitching the pleats in place and tucking/turning in the edges.

There are many types of Pleats, but we will briefly discuss the more common types:

  • Box- edges face in the opposite direction
    Box Pleated Skirt

  • Knife- Heat Pressed edges and they face in the same direction
    Knife Pleat Skirt

  • Accordion or Sunburst- They have a wider bottom that goes up into a narrow top

  • Kick- A single pleat
    Kick Pleats

  • Inverted- Edges meet at a center line facing each other

Sales Declining

A fashion line representative emailed me and asked what were they doing wrong and why their clothing wasn’t selling as they expected, because after marketing, promoting, sales incentives and building an online shop products were still moving at a slow pace and it seemed as if they’re headed for a dead end. After looking at their website I came to the conclusion below.

The key to marketing and promotions is not having a million dollar budget, the best fashion public relations company behind your collection or even having a big name in the fashion industry back your clothing line even though all of the above helps, but most importantly you have to actually have a good quality product targeted to the right market, if you don’t start there.

It seems so many people spend so much time worrying about how they’re going to get in stores or how to get a celebrity to wear your clothing that you forget about the basics of the fashion industry and that is the overall design and function of the product you’re selling. Otherwise all the promotions, marketing and incentives in the world won’t save your brand or move a piece of merchandise

Very inspirational for any company to get their own patent in an industry that is synonymous with bootleggers, counterfeiters, and true uniqueness & creativity coming only a dime a dozen.

Ka Wang Holding Inc. is the parent company of Ka Wang department stores in Southern China, which has been operating for twenty seven years (1980) and is also the innovators behind a new blue jean patent fabric.

Last month (I know I’m late, but nobody has covered it :) ) Ka Wang holding signed a $15,000,000 contract to produce their patented blue jean fabric for textile companies in the Hunan Providence in Northern China. Over the next year the contract states that Ka Wang will deliver an additional 1130 metric tons of the newly developed high density, soft as cotton, fabric material.

Who would think that Spain still had a non-standardized clothing measuring system, but I’m pretty sure they’re not the only country that lacks in the fashion industry department.

According to The Independent consumers have a better chance at winning the lottery than finding their correct size in a timely manner while shopping in Spain for the new fashionable items. Because one stores 12 will be another stores 14 and another stores 10 so it is not unusual to see women rushing to the dressing room with more than three of the same item (different sizes) in hand.

The countries government has grown tired of the complaints and finally plans to make a change with the help of some of their more prominent clothing brands, leading retailers, and manufacturers including: Inditex empire ? owner of the fast-fashion giant Zara, Mango, department store El Corte Ingl?s, and clothing chain Cortefiel and many more will most likely follow suit since these businesses dominate the Spanish market, but also have a strong international appeal.

Seems like Kellogg wants a larger chunk of the urban-youth market with the so-called launch of Under the Hood clothing company which is supposedly a premium licensed brand from the Kellogg Cereal Company by a company named WJ Holdings.

Now either someone is incredibly stupid and knows nothing about intellectual property, trademarks, copyrights and all that good stuff or Kellogg has made what they think to be a strategic move to gain ground in a new market. If the former is true I hope they have a great lawyer, because that is copyright infringement to the tenth power with the use of their name, characters, and registered trademarks. Steve Madden Logo

Even though many of us might dream of the day we’re able to flip our clothing brand for a nice profit that is not always the case when brands are put up for sale. Steve Madden the trendy shoe brand has put the for sale sign up in front of the company, because stock for the shoemaker has seen better times considering the stock has dropped by 50% compared to a year ago in the same period.

The drop in sales is due to their lack of innovation and fresh styles within the shoe market. Most of their sale through was fueled by the consumers mindset of “got to have the new look or must have/buy now mentality” has went out because they have failed to present new styles or put anything fresh on the market for their customer base to crave.

If you’re within the Bronx, New York area this might be the internship for you. T’zers a trendy urban couture clothing company that produces t-shirts, lingerie, and swim wear for women is looking for a fashion student to assist in the development and design of a female tank top to add to the product mix. The intern should have experience in fashion sketching, design, sewing, sourcing fabric and knowledge of appliqu?s. Sounds like if you know all of the above there would be no reason for the internship, but who knows.

I did some quick research on the company and found a website here I’m not sure if it is the same company named T’zers or if they didn’t check into the name they gave their clothing collection, because the site above isn’t too flattering and has been down for a couple of months…hopefully they’re two different operations.
