Counterfeiting is still going to be a big issue in year 2008 even with all the large scale bust made by US customs and border security earlier this year and most recently this month.

According to DNR the annual Bush administration says China hasn’t done enough to put the US at ease by strengthening their control over counterfeiting and piracy which still remain at very high levels and directly affect US businesses. The US and China government has agreed to strengthen up their efforts by sharing information on customs seizures of counterfeit goods and improve enforcement of laws that prevent the improper use of a company?s name.

I really don’t see counterfeiting becoming a controlled issue anytime soon, but better efforts and improved security could definitely decrease the affect on the counterfeited businesses at hand.

A fabric weave where the top twill line runs from the top left hand corner of the fabric towards the bottom right. Usually in piece dyed fabrics, left hand twill fabrics are woven from single plied yarns in the warp. In most cases left hand twill denim is softer to the touch than right hand twill. In the jeans industry Lee has always used left hand twill denims as their basic denims.

As you can see in the picture below how the twill line starts at the left and moves across to the right of the fabric:

Left Hand Twill

The picture below is of a right hand twill:

Right Hand Twill

The Christmas holiday season is the best time to gain new customers by introducing season critical products and promoting old stock with sales and discounts…hopefully some of the new comers will stay around for more than when your product is heavily discounted.

How has the rush of tourist and shoppers on and offline looking for bargains and holiday sales affected your bottom line? Or did it affect it at all? If not your most likely not properly promoting your product or offering customers discounts or your target market is not heavily influenced to buy on discount or marked down prices if so your clothing products are probably in a higher price range.

This is a new definition for me also and I thought I would share it with our readers. Bartak is a sewing procedure that reinforces stress points on jeans (similar to the job of rivets). Usually the technique is needed around front flies, crotches, and pocket openings.

The selvedge is the knitted edge of a piece of fabric, as opposed to a cut edge. A piece of fabric with a selvedge at both edges has been knitted to width. The selvedge will not unravel as a cut edge would before linking or over locking. The side edges are basically reinforced to prevent raveling.

Mens apparel prices fell 0.4 percent last month compared to the preceding month which was unlikely compared to every other categories of goods and services rising 0.8 percent November. Even though mens apparel prices showed a decrease it was the same as a year before in the same period so the price drop wasn’t unusual.
