I wanted to find a way that we could motivate each other on our journey of starting a clothing line. I know many of you are not million dollar enterprises, but im sure you have moments where you’ve felt like your actually going to make it or were excited to see someone wearing your clothing for the first time or received your first store order or meeting with a buyer.

It’s not only for clothing company owners, but for anybody in the fashion industry that has received any kind of success in their pursuit to succeed in this cut throat industry. (Ex: Model-first photo shoot, Clothing Store-First hundred customers etc)

Those were all exciting times for me when starting my clothing line and I know many of you can relate. If you submit your comment then we will write an article (with your success story) and publish it on the front page (thousands of eyes) and link back to your site or if you don’t have a site…we might just let your Myspace represent your business.

Yesterday’s post on the relaunch of Pick of the Day: Worldwide Exposure… Was kind of a wake up call for me and a valuable lesson on how most of our visitors think and react.

If you remember the Dobizo Will Finance Your Clothing Company April Fool’s Day Prank long story short one of our writers said we would finance your apparel company and we would pick the best clothing company that left a comment out of the top 10. Needless to say in a couple of hours I received 100’s of emails from entrants who all thought they we’re ready for the financing/investor stage, but yesterday in the Worldwide Exposure article we wrote about how we would write about your clothing company on the front page of the blog that receives thousands of daily visitors and thousands of daily subscribers, but I received less than five emails that actually thought they were ready…. :( huh! and the others were talking about how they would be ready in the future or just not ready at the moment, but you’re ready for financing?

Many people young and old think success is an unobtainable goal, not cut out for the masses and statistically speaking it can look that way. But it is really up to you at the end of the day to make that choice on whether or not you will lead the life of a 9-5 cubicle slave or make the leap into financial freedom through any of your would-be entrepreneurial endeavors simultaneously paving your way to success. This is not just for business people, but for anyone who has ever had a goal and failed to achieve it whether it was losing weight, earning extra income, or overcoming everyday obstacles in life.

So with that said instead of writing about how to be successful or how to make money or how to increase your chances to success in the next 24 hours I decided to write about why you will never be successful in this lifetime, because many read how they can be successful, but their aren’t many articles to my knowledge on the reasons for people not succeeding even though most can be changed around for the better.

Tommy TV by Tommy Hilfiger

Posted by: Fashion06 in Fashion News |

Well what do you know Tommy Hilfiger has his own television station based out of London online named Tommy TV.

I personally think it is a definite cry for attention considering consumers haven’t been giving Tommy too much of it for the last few years and things aren’t looking any better.

From DNR:

“The station will broadcast the Hilfiger Sessions, concerts the fashion label has organized in association with Sony BMG, which spotlight both established artists such as Wyclef Jean and undiscovered acts from around the world. ”

The move is part of Tommy Hilfiger’s effort to reach out to their consumer base who they say spend most of their time online. Since music and fashion go hand in hand what better way to reach them than online as a collection of music sessions of course tying in the Hilfiger brand with well known acts in the music industry.

I decided to bring Pick of the Day back! If you’ve been a long time reader then your familiar with the concept. Basically we write about any interesting company or new concept in the apparel industry from new to old. This time there is a little twist to keep the flow of the process down to a minimum and make the process of choosing what fashion industry company to write about.

For instance if you represent a clothing company then we would prefer you send a sample my size is 2x shirt and 36 jeans, but if you don’t have it just send whatever, because it is more about us seeing and feeling the quality of your garment and we will donate the clothing to a local charity. If this is not possible still send us an email to review@dobizo.com and we will review your clothing company if we like it…that simple. If we don’t review it don’t take it personal most likely we will send feedback as to why we didn’t. This is our way to give back even more and in know way are we obligated to write about your company.

roadblock success
I think that we can all agree that financing seems to be the number 1 reason for why most startup clothing companies say they’re not succeeding or able to grow their clothing company or even start one for that matter.

I get so many emails from people that say Fred I have a great idea, but I don’t have the necessary financing to get my clothing company off the ground and I know if I did we would be a big hit! Something of that sort, but I get at least 10 of those per week and honestly it’s kind of scary to see, because it is not only in the fashion industry that you hear people talk about the what if’s and maybes of why they’re not succeeding.

So many if I met this person and if they wore it or if I could quit my job and work on it full time…so many excuses, but what many fail to realize is that many of us are up against the same obstacles and reality that you faced, but the successful few are the ones that chose to overcome it..what will you make of your destiny in the fashion industry?

Clean Finish refers to the process of turning under the raw edge of fabric to the inside and stitching close to the folded edge. This is to prevent fraying and to give the seam allowance a clean finish. (without the raw fraying edges showing) Usually you’re instructed to turn under anywhere from 1/4-1/8 of the raw edge. Really depends on the fabric.

Daily Definition of Dart

Posted by: Fashion06 in Daily Definition |

A V-shaped seam that starts wide and tapers off the edge of the fabric. A dart molds a flat piece of fabric so that it fits smoothly over a rounded area of the body, like around hips, bust or the top of your head.

That is how they achieve the fit of some form fitting tops and dresses in women’s wear. The darts make the fabric conform to the body’s contours.

You can see the darts on this basic men’s pattern block:

A very interesting fact that I found out about earlier this week. The first pair of the world famous Doc Marten brand boot were made of old tires. At the time nobody knew how popular the footwear would become.
