The topic were just some thoughts I had on the fashion industry as a whole how most clothing lines are trends, fads, or become major clothing companies. Especially with the new up rise of clothing lines that place themselves in the street wear category. Urban clothing as a segment of the clothing industry evolved over time from where street wear is today. Urban clothing as we know it is urban hip hop inspired clothing that tends to be more loose fitting with over exaggerated logos and prints…agree? Somewhere in time street wear carved out a so-called niche and is now making it’s way into mainstream stores and media. When is a clothing line street wear and not urban clothing? Who will street wear community accept as a brand? As you can see most clothing lines who were once branding themselves as urban clothing lines are now slimming down the fits and incorporating a lot more than just hip hop/urban culture into their lines. I guess its apart of adopting styles and changing your image into what is selling or “hot”? So that is what leads to my question. Is street wear a trend or will it become a force in the clothing industry and dominate like urban clothing once did?
I would really like some feedback on this subject and what are your thoughts? Is your brand urban or street wear and what defines your clothing brands market? Other than the obvious like maternity wear, juniors, big & tall.

What it dew CEO? Hussel Premium here, signing in from Texas… Your question asks, “Is street wear a trend or will it become a force in the clothing industry and dominate like urban clothing once did?” ::::::::::::::::::: First , you must ask yourself ” Is it a trend to who (which market) ?” Obviously to the people who always wore streetwear, it has never left. The urban folk have just jumped on the bangwangin and are directly affecting recent sales boosts. By the time you get your money right to jump on that trend and actually produce some “cut-n-sew” items, the urban/hip hop crowd will have moved on to something else. Streetwear usually appealls to the skater/rock/hip-hop crowd. Streetwear is most often sold in streetwear boutiques. Streetwear companies usually produce items in more limited numbers and at higher price points. Streetwear companies are usually smaller and the owners have more influence in designs and direction. Streetwear companies usually don’t make long tees , baggy jeans, or 3x and up. Urban brands usually appeal to the masses and doesnt care who sales their clothes.Streetwear sales success often depends on who the owner is relative to the streetwear community. Like you Ceo, for example, if you must asked this question , then it’s apparent that you are not part of the streetwear community and should maybe stick to urban apperal. Streetwear also mainly strives off original quality wear, and word of mouth, while urban brands must rely on adverstisements in publications such as xxl, source, vibe, etc. You will never see the publications carrying ads of Crooks and Castles, Ten Deep, or Greedy Genius. Streetwear usually sets trends for urban wear to follow. They are willing to take more risks and whatever is successful, the urban brands follow, like the “all-over-print”. A successful streetwear brand profits about 250k a year, while a successful urban brand pockets 250 million. For an upcoming designer entering streetwear market, be prepared to be shuned by their ruling elite. They are almost like a clothing Mafia who doesn’t want anyone in. Sort of like they run the streets, but most are just nerds, who know nothing about the street beside whats under their skateboard wheels. This information I’m giving ya’ll is free this time, next time I’m going to have to charge ya…………… Just knidding

I’m definitely not part of the community as far as hanging with the inner circles of the street wear companies…but as far as messages they produce and relate to on their shirts….I’ve seen and live all facets of that life…and can relate so therefore I actually own a few pieces from some of their lines…the question was more to get opinions….not to really educate myself…thanks for all the great info hussel premium…make sure and leave a comment on the article below:

I think it’s a trend for those who are trend hoppers. For instance those who have now started wearing slimmer fitting clothes and items with skulls on them, this is because Jim Jones has started wearing these clothes, it’s not directly related to streetwear but is a ‘trend’ that many will leave after a while. Streetwear will be a trend for those who don’t live it or identify with it. I dont even like the term streetwear but the lifestyle incorporates many walks and facets of life. I came into streetwear from the music side of things while others come in from the art side and others come from the skateboarding scene etc.. but those who really identify will stick with it, while those who just like it because they seen a celebrity in it will fade and to them it will be a trend but to those who live it they will be happy to call it their own once again.

I think the that street wear in a trend and like most things it will have to evolve or adapt to stay around but thats up to each line if u have a certain niche or something that makes you differnent u will stand out and stay around.

Streetwear will always be around for the hard core fans of it…but as far as the urban market its just a trend that will pass once something new comes out.

I think this is a hot topic because I recently went on an interview for a job an a lady told me that she feels streetwear wont be around to long. But I have to disagree with her,Streetwear sells the most in the industry people have been doubting it since it came about but its still going strong. Thats the reason why the other brands are biting off of it and make it appear as a trend because they see how it is embraced by many. So they say to them self if we give our clothes a more urban edge well sell more .
I feel streetwear will remain cause its not a trend its a lifestyle and like jay was saying :
” those who really identify will stick with it, while those who just like it because they seen a celebrity in it will fade and to them it will be a trend but to those who live it they will be happy to call it their own once again.”
