I was looking through Complex magazine, which is one of my favorites if you can’t tell by now! I noticed a horrible advertisement by Massive Revolution a clothing company launched a few years back that makes use of COLOR a lot in its clothing pieces for more info on the line check out their website, because this post is not about their clothing line as a whole, but about an advertisement they placed that was well not thought out. Not like their advertisement is far from their first released clothing line pieces, which I’m not too fond of either, but spring/summer 2007 is not half bad.

Anyway the advertisement was no more than a model in one of their hoodies the hood over his head eyes gazing downward (classic look) and it was all good until at the bottom in bold font it says ” Massive Revolution Only Available In The Cool Stores” what the hell is that! I mean unless your selling to middle school kids will that phrase get anybody’s attention or make me wanna take another look at your clothing brand in a store. I don’t know maybe it’s me, but I just thought that slogan was not very well thought out you would expect more from a brand with solid backers/investors.

To me Lrg, Ralph Lauren, and Sean John have some of the best advertisements as far as magazines are concerned. I like how Lrg has catchy phrases that you will remember like “It’s all fun and games until somebody gets fly” little memorable lines like that get me excited about the brand and plus the layout of their ads are great…well thought out.

What are some of the worst clothing line advertisements you have seen or ones that you actually like? Name the brand and magazine if possible.

Lrg got hell of a team. And a whole lotta paper to support that team of “lifted research” thinking. Its hard for me to recall the worst ads, becuase those are usually the ones we forget. We usually remember the goods ones. I guess that’s what makes them good. I’ve seen the ad your talking about fred. It did suck !!! Most streetwear boutique owners read Complex magazine, so i think the phrase “…only in the cool stores”, was a direct shot a the retailers. Basically ..telling them “if they want to be cool, pleeeeeeeze pickup our line” On another note, is anybody going to the China outsourcing factory tradeshow in NY in June. If so… I’ll be there. get at me. Drinks on me !!
