How has everybody been doing? I know its been a while since I’ve posted. The reason for the hiatus is I’ve been working on my line Ace of All Trades, and getting everything in order so I can launch on time (June 1st be sure to lookout!). During the past couple weeks I’ve been swamped whether it be meeting with potential interns to photographers to every day life, but during all the hard work that’s been involved I still manage to sit back, reflect and realize the fun I’m having. Like seriously, we are all here because we are starting our own clothing lines and that means starting our own companies which is one of the dopest things on this earth to me. The courage alone to get out there and start your own business is crazy enough and to be doing something you love, man that’s the life. This post I guess is to just remind everyone to have fun with your business, other wise you will dread it like every other job you’ve had, which kills the point of doing your own thing. So when you’re out there running around, staying up late designing, pushing to getting everything ready, just sit back for a moment and think about all those who aren’t out there getting paid for what they love to do and give your self a pat on the back for going out there and making something incredible out of pure passion for the art.

I’m sure you have a stack of applications of people wanting to intern for you. LOL .Like good luck man. We wait with anticipation for your launch. Maybe lunch ?

Yea that stack grows by the week and there’s so much talent its hard to turn people down but I don’t want to bring toooo many people on. All I did was post up intern flyers in the art department at school. It went slow the first week with no replies then they started swarming in out of nowhere so like I’ve said before in a previous post if you need some help get those intern flyers going.

I was in Europe for a bit, took a little mini vacation to Rome.
I see you’ve been busy redesigning the blog etc.. Getting to look very smooth.
Some encouraging words for any designers looking to put out a line. You may want to research a European consumer and their buying habits. While many big brands and retailers are sucking wind, a certain niche has developed where small is good and very desireable.
First and foremost, style is important. Quality of material runs a close second. A Euro customer doesn’t buy crap, so don’t even think about trying to sell anything less than what’s available on the market and I wil tell you, there are some dandies out there.
Brands you never have heard of. May never hear of. I was amazed at the diversity and selection.I was most impressed by a seemingly return to classic type styling. (btw, have trench coats made it here yet ?)
A colleague told me once. A European gentleman will buy one $ 1500.00 suit. .An American will jump up and buy three $500.00 suits. I see this at street level. Hey even the Brits think along these lines. I was impressed, and at the same time very dissappointed at all the crap we have on ” close out” available at your local Prime Outlet Mall.
Of course they have T-shirts lines, but the fabrics are so much nicer. Bamboos , organic cotton blends rayons, African milled fair trade cottons . No run of the mill 6 oz. carded cotton. Rubbish.
Clever embroideries, low key prints/embellishments. Euro’s must think some of the stuff we have on the market is for washing our cars. Lewd or profane t-shirts are considered crass and only lesser individuals would buy or wear them. The class division in most of European society can be defined by the clothig you purchase and wear.
We can learn a lot from our European friends. Sadly,I don’t think they can learn anything from us at this point.

I always say that you have to love what you are doing if you want to be successful.

Fred,
This new look. Are you really aiding and abetting new labels to start up or are you getting greased every time someone clicks on something mentioned here.
Check your forum out.You are the moderator.Answer some of the questions being asked there rather than let them languish. Truely build your site around the forum rather than become a newsgroup that benefits you financially. Mr Hussel Fly made a comment in the forum some time ago about only reading about new labels starting up.I think I see his point now.
April 19th, 2007 at 8:50 am
He was saying he wanted to see more of the new labels?right…so I started talking about the new labels and also more established labels. I’m getting around to the forum I noticed. I run this whole site by myself, plus I run my clothing business. There is a problem with firefox browsers on my site that I am trying to fix right now. There are more informational articles now than ever if you look upon the last few months..he said he wanted less news and more info…so that’s is what I gave them. I post atleast one to two info articles a day, plus one news article, and a definition or pick of the day.
I don’t get paid for anything I mention in ANY of my articles lastly. I write about what I find on the net…if I got paid to do a sponsored review I would mention it in the article…never have did that.

I guess I should have said this differently. You seem like a nice lad Fred. Your blog name clearly states” how to start a clothing line from scratch”. Your best bet in aiding newbies is to give them hard info on manufacturing. I stated yesterday in my post that European T-shirt lines are so much better and saleable because they build better t-shirts from scratch, not buy them in LA.
I think you need to build a strong forum if this thing is gonna work out Fred. You need to work this area.
Don’t be afraid to chastisize people for asking boneheaded questions (and there are some doosies) .
Look.I know I said I was gonna write some stuff on Manufacturing 101, but I was kinda of waiting to see where this was going.

thanks I will take all your info into mind…I’m still waiting on your article
…lol. This blog is beginning to be a handful I need help from knowledgeable people like you ….Thom cause at the end of the day I still have to do what pays my bills!…and it isn’t this blog…I do this for fun and sharing information and don’t mind help from anyone along the way.
I put a lot of work into this blog behind the scenes and have big plans far as later doing meetups and seminars for the readers to see the faces behind these comments…you understand me…I just love the world of fashion ….that’s is why I share news and reviews of other companies…and most of the readers like the news too…so I try and mix it with the info articles and definitions.
