I wanted to find a way that we could motivate each other on our journey of starting a clothing line. I know many of you are not million dollar enterprises, but im sure you have moments where you’ve felt like your actually going to make it or were excited to see someone wearing your clothing for the first time or received your first store order or meeting with a buyer.

It’s not only for clothing company owners, but for anybody in the fashion industry that has received any kind of success in their pursuit to succeed in this cut throat industry. (Ex: Model-first photo shoot, Clothing Store-First hundred customers etc)

Those were all exciting times for me when starting my clothing line and I know many of you can relate. If you submit your comment then we will write an article (with your success story) and publish it on the front page (thousands of eyes) and link back to your site or if you don’t have a site…we might just let your Myspace represent your business.

Why should you do it:

  • Because you’re helping out Fred
  • Because you’re helping your business with exposure
  • Motivating others coming up in the apparel industry
  • Your giving back to a community that has helped us all
  • Because you want to!

So please let me know if you’re interested by leaving a comment with your success story go into as many details as possible!

Leave a comment now! not later :)

My first sign of success was when I received my first order from a store in Chicago named Essex 5…wonder if they’re still going strong?

Also when my company was profiled in the newspaper and I actually started to receive calls asking how to start a clothing line…hint: What made me start Dobizo.com

If it wasn’t for any of the above I couldn’t of started Dobizo.com or been motivated to keep going with my clothing company.

My first sign was seeing a guy wearing a shirt that i didnt know because when i first started u had to get the shirts thru me so that was really encouraging. Then we thru our first fashion show it was more entertaintment than fashion lol but based in the name that we made for ourselves we had 450 people show up that was the best feeling walkin out to the crowd it became real that day

My success story came about from starting small and learning from the big guys. I began my design career as an intern with Mervyn’s CA. Many design graduates snubbed the well-paid “humble” internship for a promotional west coast department store, but the daily executive lunches and hands on design experience was priceless. I was designing product that was actually in stores! I worked on the Sprockets infant/toddler collections, and then designed for their entire women’s intimates & sleepwear collections.
A few years later, I left to help launch Janie and Jack, Gymboree’s high-end baby boutique.
There, I was able to be an innovator. Do something new. Build a brand. Discover what customers wanted from the ground up. How to take risks and fix unwanted results.
I really recommend learning as much as possible from a corporate environment!
I have now launched my own children’s brand, velvet & tweed, which showed at KidShow Las Vegas. Doing our first trade show was a huge sign of success. We had brought our product to market! Our biggest success soon followed- a write up in Earnshaw’s magazine!

The day I realized I could really DO this was the day a webshop owner placed an order for 56 sets! And then a second big order a month later! And this was during just my first month of selling on etsy! WOOHOO! I have since launched my own website, have my stuff in several other online boutiques and have received several more wholesale orders. The greatest feeling of satisfaction comes when a customer sends me a picture of her child wearing MY designs! :-) BLISS! :-)

  5. Fashion06 Says:

yeah that’s pretty big Tina the write up in Earnshaw…There well respected in the Kidswear Industry if I’m not mistaken..

Michele- You’re lucky and blessed to receive that type of order in your first month

Pierre- Congrats on the fashion show turn out and I know the feeling of seeing someone wearing your shirt…I’ve seen people on facebook wearing mine and got excited :)

  9. Fashion06 Says:

Yeah alot of people seem to think it is more about street wear, but if you read many of the articles it runs much deep…we have many members doing everything from dresses to kids footwear.

being broke when I started my business, and setting weekly budgets, my first sign of success was when we exceeded those budgets in about a month after opening, with our own designs, and people pouring into our shop, reputation spreading fast, and in two years we never advertised as were so popular, and everywhere we went in our town we saw someone wearing on of our tops, what a buzz!! I tell you that really keeps you motivated!
