If you haven’t read this article then stop and go there now, before reading on. I’ve been sending out emails through the forum, Global Fashion Network and now here to get a count of how many companies are seriously interested in participating. So therefore I am extending all arms and reaching out in as many ways as possible.

Shout outs to Don Mahmood at Eklectik Genes.

After speaking with him some of the trade shows interested include: AAE @ Cobb, ALPHA1, CMAC, Southeast StreetScene and a few others coming up. These shows are in Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale.

So if you have emailed me about it…so what comment here also, and show us that you’re really interested in this concept. Only a select few will be part of this opportunity depending on many aspects.

So comment with your email in the section below.

Depending upon who we would be partnered with, I would certainly put our company in the category of being very interested, as well.

I think you need to look closely at the concept of “shared” booth space at any trade show as I see so many problems that can or will arise.

  5. Fashion06 Says:

    Thom…please share your thoughts..:)

That’s why we aren’t rushing at all. Trying to iron out the kinks and be prepared, but I would love to hear your thoughts.

Is it ever too early to do a tradeshow? We are setting up to run our first season, and a couple of the books I have read recommend not doing a tradeshow if you don’t already have people who will be coming to your booth and promote just doing business by approaching stores individually and setting up a meeting. But most buyers I’ve spoken with say they buy from tradeshows and that’s where we should be. We were planning to go to market in LA in July, but now I’m not so sure… Any opinions?

I think the intial matchmaking needs to be looked at very closely. I do know people that share booths but in most cases they know each other personally and this itself will reduce conflict. Compatibility on so many levels is needed.

    Professionalism
    Garment category
    Price range
    Target customer

Could you share a 10 X 10 booth with someone that has a totally different product range ? Someone who chooses to socialize rather than sell ? Put your t-shirt line in a booth with a high end knit line ? Prioritizes a big lunch in the booth ? How about the animosity that will result when a retailer makes an appointment with your “booth buddy” only to see your line and place an order with you ?

To answer Sharon’s question, yes you really need to make appointments prior to the start of a show. Simply to rely on foot traffic will prove dissappointing. Many cases there is no traffic. As a first timer to market, I strongly urge you to walk the show vs. exhibiting. This will give you the opportunity to speak and discuss with the exhibitors their thoughts, speak to actual sales reps, do the much needed legwork before you commit yourself to exhibiting at that show. Contrary to what many people think, participation at show does not mean you are going to write orders.

A shared booth if not done with utmost caution and good matchmaking can be a total disaster. The risks are high, many of the invariables are out of your control.Of course the different show organizers are all over the idea because they are in the business of selling raw space. I doubt very much if any of these shows are juried, meaning if you have money, your in. It’s that simple.

In all, I don’t think this is a good idea. At some point, you need to experience an apparel trade show and see if it’s fit for you and your company, but I would wait till I could justify doing it solo.

    I think the risks are
