Serious about starting a clothing line? If so subscribe to our RSS feed or Email notifications for exclusive articles/updates that you don't want to miss!

I had a meeting yesterday with the founder of Eklectik Genes Don Mahmood an active member on the Dobizo Network and he invited me over to speak with him on the fashion industry, the trade show concept, and what it’s like being in the fashion industry.

Let’s just say the guy knows his stuff. I plan on working with him directly to get a lot of new things going on with Dobizo and his clothing line in the near future after seeing that his mind is in the same place as mine and that’s helping the underdog succeed. He’s very passionate about helping many of our users get overseas, attend trade shows, and work with manufacturers without seeing your company get jerked and hopefully avoid some of the mistakes that we both made when starting out.

Many ideas we spoke on had to do with directly affecting the community that is building here at Dobizo. From writing a free e-book to organized meet-ups and much more. I think after my meeting with Don we will definitely see a few contributed articles from his camp that is actively looking for a graphic designer to intern with his company if that is of any interest I would suggest you email him at info@ekgenes.com right away to be considered.

In the future I would like to setup a meeting with some of the users of Dobizo that are interested in meeting members one on one for a more versed discussion of getting into the fashion industry and some of the ups and downs of starting out.

How many members may be interested as of now? (email or leave a comment)

I would certainly be interested in one on one discussions! I am new to the fashion industry and would benefit greatly from speaking directly to others that have already walked down the path I am currently taking.

    Please count me in!

b/t/w Fred…even tho u didn’t get back to me, (yes I know ur a busy guy. No worries.) I conquered my intermittent anxiety attack. As always God came thru and things are smoothing out. Just having someone there to listed (read) my concerns helps.

GOOD IDEA PIERRE! Esp considering we’re all over the Globe!

That would be amazing. Sometimes you can read a millon different blogs about starting your own fashion line and still be a little “Stuck” but actually meeting with someone would make a huge impact!

I am very interested in learning more, since I am starting out & have no clue what I am doing! I am shopping investors now, so any info I can learn would be great! I’m not in LA, so would this be posted if we can’t attend, but want to learn?

Yeah we gotta stick together and start to weed out some of these bangwagon brands that think it cool to start a line and dont really love and it always seem like those are the cats that can get money to back it ya know …But i really do like the idea of a conference I think it will be a big boost for dobizo and fashion network

Your site has been a very liberating experience providing valuable information to those learning the fashion business, such as myself. I would be interested in one on one meetings, depending on location and time factors. I receive your update emails with great interest. One thing I have found quite perplexing is that I had assumed that if consumer interest and demand was generated on an item then retail would be keen to stock it. It has been my experience after conversations with purchasing managers that (generally, not all), they intimate that it is retail who tell the consumers what they can have and what is in fashion, not the other way around. Is this an experience shared by others looking for retail orders? If so it suggests that internet marketing, is the way to work it. Have a Wildly Creative Day, Gina Crane OFF THE PAGE OTP Clothing

Being very new to the industry and wanting to learn more about it, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn some of the ins and outs and the to-dos and the not-to-dos of a startup company. Please keep me informed of a potential meeting, thanks.
