As you remember about a month ago I posted an article about a delinquent account I had with a Atlanta, Ga retailer by the name of Phat Gear.
If you’re familiar with the retailer make sure to go by there and tell Hassan the store owner/buyer he is now famous on the internet for jerking small businesses around :).
Some of the responses (Before comments were off) I received I took into mind and one in particular almost had me feeling disrespected, but I laughed it off and it comes with the Internet territory. I took heed to some of the advice though:
“Fred you are out of your mind stopping in and asking them for your money. Take him to court and make sure the statute hasn’t run on your claim. Companies pay debt collection firms to strong arm people for money all the time. Eventually the firms garnish the persons wages in order to receive payments. Since you are on a much smaller scale just go to Fulton county to file a small claim against them. Stop thinking like a peon and get your mind right”
So after talking to the guy once more after several unanswered calls I went back down to the store and talked to him more about the situation…did I mention it has been over another month.
Long story short I didn’t and still don’t have time to go back to South Carolina and dig through papers from two years back he knows and I know that I am owed money and he admitted that to me and my partner in the first meeting a month ago.
Here is the conversation in short:
Fred: I was wanting to come down here to collect the first half of the money owed to Scout Union Apparel.
Phat Gear: I told you I needed the initial invoice to pay you
Fred: You said either way you would pay me half now and the rest once I retrieve the papers
Phat Gear: It will make the process a lot more simple If you can get the papers
Fred: At this point I’m not able to go to South Carolina and get the papers. You should have the purchase order I brought to your store and you filed in your computer.
Phat Gear: Where was this when you gave me the papers?
Fred: At your store!
Phat Gear: No, where was this when you gave me the papers?
Fred: At your store on Decatur street! (At the time there was two stores and now he only has one..fell on hard times I guess
I’m not a bad person..lol )
Phat Gear: Exactly I left everything with that store at that store.
Fred: So you’re telling me you left all the information from that store including sales, receipts, purchases and everything at the old store?
Phat Gear: Yes and If you don’t have the original invoice then I don’t owe you anything (With a sarcastic look on his face)
Fred: I will see you in a few weeks Hassan…Phat Gear: Make sure to have the papers…Fred: I will have those papers plus a few more
So I took some advice from one of our members and will be taking Hassan/Phat Gear to small claims court just to prove a point and teach him a lesson it really isn’t about the money…I mean its almost two years later, but it took that long to find him.
