DNR speaks on the evolution of the urban consumer and where has he gone??? Nowhere just evolved and moving along with the natural progression of fashion in my opinion.

You either adjust with the times or sit around and play catch up while losing sales to the progressive company’s that are willing to adapt to a little change. LRG did it and look at the success of their clothing line by bridging the gap between skate, surf, and street wear to form a brand with a universal appeal.

Some highlights from the article that I agree with:

“If you want to find him, skip the urban specialty stores and check out the floors at Nordstrom or Metropark instead, where he is picking up some premium denim and a rock & roll–inspired T-shirt. At his local skate shop, he’s decked out in So-Cal action-sports labels. Underground sneaker shops sell him hard-to-find gear from progressive streetwear labels.”

Highlights that I don’t agree with:

“Even Abercrombie & Fitch, home of the white-bread frat boy, has become a popular destination for the wandering urban shopper. “

pull the plugI know this is something that many of you would never want to come to terms with, but in all reality it is something that many businesses face.

There will be many times where you think it is not going to happen or you have exhausted all your resources and it is time to throw in the towel, but how do you know that this time it is for sure or are you just giving up out of pure frustration?

I personally would never give up unless I’ve used all my resources and tried every alternative possible and they’ve all failed, because unless you truly took advantage of every waking moment and opportunity your thin line between failure/success could lie between.

The idea for this article came about after finding out about MindTrix Clothing calling it quits after five years in business and are in the process of selling off the last of its inventory. They’ve decided to pull the plug after Mindtrix ran out of money to continue production after a couple of setbacks in 2007. Hopefully this article will help them sell off the last bit and good luck to them in the future. Show your support for a fellow designer-entrepreneur by Shopping Mindtrix clothing.

independent-tradingcompanyI’ve been reading your emails and have been responding by searching myself online for suppliers and answers to your custom blank apparel needs. I know many are not ready to take the plunge to a full cut & sew operation, but who says you can’t have some kind of say-so in the way your apparel looks as far as the cut & size is concerned.

Introducing Independent Trading Company a leading supplier of custom hoody’s and sweatshirts. Independent Trading Company is much more than an everyday blank sweater supplier, but also a custom manufacturer that can make your sweatshirts to your exact specifications. They can handle everything from the printing, to shipping, packaging, samples to drop shipping. The custom program is not for every startup company because it carries a minimum of 60 dozen per color/120 dozen per style for your own custom specifications on blanks.

Some of the embellishments they can handle include:

  • Screen Prints/treatments: all-over, water-base, Plastisol, and numerous specialty treatments such as sugar-glitter, crystalline, puff, high-density, flocking, foil, emboss/deboss, etc.

Topstitching is a sewing term that refers to stitches that usually are on the outer (not the inside, the outside visible) edge of a garment and is used to attach one garment piece to another.(Ex: pockets, collars, shoes, belts) Sometimes used as decoration, constructive, or aesthetic purposes and is sewn parallel or right next to the seam.

Best of All

Catching up from Part 1

In the case of Phat Gear I never received the money for that order till this day and don’t expect it in the mail anytime soon. I don’t regret anything that has happened to me during my time in the fashion industry and all the mishaps have made me more aware and I learned that starting a clothing line has one hell of a learning curve and good bit come from learning how to deal with the people in it.

Considering I will be moving to Atlanta for good in January I plan on making a few rounds and paying some store owners a visit ;) .

I’ve heard everything during the start of my clothing line and anything I tell you on this blog has happened to me or anyone surrounding my circle. This business is not for the faint of heart and you will not withstand it if you are not persistent and believe in your own clothing company when nobody else does.

I wanted to find a way that we could motivate each other on our journey of starting a clothing line. I know many of you are not million dollar enterprises, but im sure you have moments where you’ve felt like your actually going to make it or were excited to see someone wearing your clothing for the first time or received your first store order or meeting with a buyer.

It’s not only for clothing company owners, but for anybody in the fashion industry that has received any kind of success in their pursuit to succeed in this cut throat industry. (Ex: Model-first photo shoot, Clothing Store-First hundred customers etc)

Those were all exciting times for me when starting my clothing line and I know many of you can relate. If you submit your comment then we will write an article (with your success story) and publish it on the front page (thousands of eyes) and link back to your site or if you don’t have a site…we might just let your Myspace represent your business.

Yesterday’s post on the relaunch of Pick of the Day: Worldwide Exposure… Was kind of a wake up call for me and a valuable lesson on how most of our visitors think and react.

If you remember the Dobizo Will Finance Your Clothing Company April Fool’s Day Prank long story short one of our writers said we would finance your apparel company and we would pick the best clothing company that left a comment out of the top 10. Needless to say in a couple of hours I received 100’s of emails from entrants who all thought they we’re ready for the financing/investor stage, but yesterday in the Worldwide Exposure article we wrote about how we would write about your clothing company on the front page of the blog that receives thousands of daily visitors and thousands of daily subscribers, but I received less than five emails that actually thought they were ready…. :( huh! and the others were talking about how they would be ready in the future or just not ready at the moment, but you’re ready for financing?

Many people young and old think success is an unobtainable goal, not cut out for the masses and statistically speaking it can look that way. But it is really up to you at the end of the day to make that choice on whether or not you will lead the life of a 9-5 cubicle slave or make the leap into financial freedom through any of your would-be entrepreneurial endeavors simultaneously paving your way to success. This is not just for business people, but for anyone who has ever had a goal and failed to achieve it whether it was losing weight, earning extra income, or overcoming everyday obstacles in life.

So with that said instead of writing about how to be successful or how to make money or how to increase your chances to success in the next 24 hours I decided to write about why you will never be successful in this lifetime, because many read how they can be successful, but their aren’t many articles to my knowledge on the reasons for people not succeeding even though most can be changed around for the better.

roadblock success
I think that we can all agree that financing seems to be the number 1 reason for why most startup clothing companies say they’re not succeeding or able to grow their clothing company or even start one for that matter.

I get so many emails from people that say Fred I have a great idea, but I don’t have the necessary financing to get my clothing company off the ground and I know if I did we would be a big hit! Something of that sort, but I get at least 10 of those per week and honestly it’s kind of scary to see, because it is not only in the fashion industry that you hear people talk about the what if’s and maybes of why they’re not succeeding.

So many if I met this person and if they wore it or if I could quit my job and work on it full time…so many excuses, but what many fail to realize is that many of us are up against the same obstacles and reality that you faced, but the successful few are the ones that chose to overcome it..what will you make of your destiny in the fashion industry?

Fashion Industry Events Calendar

Posted by: Fashion06 in Business |

I know many of you probably haven’t seen many events posted lately and that is because they’re all posted on the Events page on the Fashion Network. I was thinking and there is no point to have events posted on the blog and on the Global Fashion Network events page. So if you’re not a member and want to keep up with all fashion industry events then
