Russel Simmons former owner of Def Jam, plus founder of Phat Farm and Baby Phat has released his second book. (What was the first?) Do You! 12 Laws to Access the Power in You to Achieve Happiness and Success, is co-authored by Chris Morrow, and has a introduction by real-estate junkie Donald Trump. I first heard about the book being released when Russell Simmons was on the Oprah’s TV show. According to Oprah and Russell she convinced him to change the title to “Do You” with one phone call she thought it was a better fit for the content…I guess when Oprah talks people listen :) . We haven’t had a Monday book or movie review in a while. I personally haven’t read the book, but it has been receiving great reviews and if Oprah gives it a thumbs up it can’t be too bad right? I was reading through some of the reviews on Amazon and 99% gave the book great reviews and says how it is good for anyone wanting advice on succeeding in business and being yourself…not just a book for hip hop guys as one customer put it. The book is available for purchase on Amazon

This book analysis and speaks on how to become a better person in life and how it can affect climbing the ladder to success. The book itself is not directly related too fashion, but it gives you an overall motivation and guide to getting the most out of your professional life as a (fashion entrepreneur) in most of our readers case. Plus check out all the great reviews it has on Amazon with a five star book rating. The author Marshall Goldsmith is an executive coach to corporate bigwigs.

The daily book drop is not at all forgotten on this boring Monday. Today’s installment is The Business of Designing, Manufacturing, and Marketing. I can’t give a review on this book being that I never read it, but from the title itself seems like it’s definitely a sound investment. If anybody has read this book please give some insight on it.

This book is loaded with information from fabric mills and outlets that cater to smaller companies who can’t afford higher minimums. I actually had the chance to browse through this book when I was in college it was in our library. From what I remember it had the location, number, and contact from each company, also annual sales revenue of each company. This could be very helpful to the apparel lines who are venturing into cut & sew or producing clothing in-house and need a connection with some fabric wholesalers with low minimums. Also the book is a cheap sale on Amazon for $40.50 and could save a lot of time if you were to manually search on the net.

When I wrote about it I received many emails about people wanting to know where to purchase it. You can now purchase it here directly through Amazon.

How to succeed in urban fashion?

A lot of soon to be designer/label owners would love to know the formula to the answer. Well here it is Ego Killer entertainment and Gilyard MFG have compiled interview/reviews from some of the most sought after brands and put them on one detailed very informative dvd.

Some of the interviews are from: Mighty Healthy, Akademiks, Digital Gravel, LRG, Panther Media Group, 10 Deep, Mecca, Gilyard, and many more.

This is a must-see if you have any plans of venturing into the urban/street wear market of the fashion industry.

This is a great book and very relevant to today?s fashion market (it was only published last year in September). I actually read this book earlier this year and used some points in one of my articles that is a rather popular one setting wholesale prices Part 1 and Part 2. Someone actually purchased this book through our site a week ago and I would like to know if they could leave a comment on what their opinion of the book is. I enjoyed it and think it touched on some very interesting topics thoroughly. Fashion designer survival guide reviews everything from branding down to sales samples and has insights from some young successful designers including Zac Posen who received financial backing from Sean John. The book is available through Amazon or you can click directly to it on my affiliate link below. This book is also available in most libraries so if you don?t have $15 dollars to purchase it you can always check it out for free at your local library.

The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Sewn Product Manufacturing:

I read this book while in college it was given to me. The book wasn?t part of our curriculum, but it should have been. This book takes you step by step on starting a sewn product line. Might not be the best book for starting a street wear line, but it gives you the facts when it comes to starting a sewn product line from beginning to end. It teaches you how to plan, create, and execute a product line. It brings you lessons from a more technical aspect and could be overwhelming to any ?would be? entrepreneur, but goes in depth to explain and make sure you understand the process in the end. Only downfall I seen was that it?s a real emphasis on sewn garments and doesn?t really get into other sewn products outside the garment industry and doesn?t really touch much on finding a manufacturer supplier, but does that really matter to my readers because our main focus is on How to start an apparel line from scratch and this book can help you do just that, if not more.
