I always thought the meaning of couture was sewing or dressmaking for the creation of a custom/exclusive garment to a customers exact measurements. I think I am in the right ball park with that definition although some would beg to differ. I also did a search on google to see what they would come up with and one was similar while others were in another lane. I think one of the definitions is something that the masses have adopted due to how tv presents fashion take a look for yourself Couture: (Google) The highest levels of fashion design, usually features designs that are only affordable to the very wealthy or high fashion designing and dressmaking. I think if you asked most they would quickly blurt out high fashion, which in a sense is couture, because that is the only form that most of us see it presented in.

From what I know most people have always affiliated couture with women’s fashion, but according to an article on DNR that’s just a memory of the past. Designers including Ozwald Boateng and Gianni Versace are taking steps toward creating pieces that resemble signs of a custom tailored couture piece, but for masculine men of course.
