Rivets are metal fasteners accessories that manufacturers add to reinforce stress points on a garment, but mostly on denim and jeans. Also used for style and ornamentation for some designers to decorate garments.

As you can see from the illustration above they come in different sizes and when used for decorations some change the shape to make it more stylish.
