I’m pretty sure you are all familiar with the term from some popular denim brands like Evisu Genes, Antik Denim, and Red Monkey Jeans. Selvedge Denim is pretty much a difference in how it is produced, because Selvedge is produced on a shuttle loom where less fabric is made and more cotton is consumed during the process and the edges have a raw edge that is finished by the loom. I’d like to add that this is how denim was done before mass production took over. The”self edge”/”selvedge” denim was finished by the loom with a particular color at the mills to designate who the denim was for. Levi’s, for example, was red.
Later projectile looms were created to produce denim in larger sheets and reduce wastage.
