We talked about copyrights yesterday and how they’re pretty much useless in the fashion marketplace! After reading over this myself I can see that knowing the exact definition could help you decide between if something should be copyrighted or trademarked.

Trademark:

Which are words, symbols, designs, names and distinguished logos or marks produced by or on your companies’ goods or services. Trademarks can become established through use in commerce, or in your business. Trademarks take a little more time to process because your submitted trademark is reviewed and then decided upon by a group if it is capable of being protected. You can file a trademark by filling out a trademark application check out the industry page for sites on trademarks.

An example of a trademark is the Nike check/swoosh or the Ecko rhino which is seen and used on most products produced by the company in their respective “trade” hence the word trade in trademark.
