How do you make sure your colors match exactly what you ask for when working with your manufacturer…do you just go with your graphic file and expect them too know. I made this mistake when producing my first clothing collection and I’m pretty sure many of you have or would’ve (lucky your reading this blog..
). I sent the file over and thought I would get the exact match of the graphic file and when I received my goods it was off by a mile…only thing I had too back it up was a graphic. Most lines are designed using Cad, in programs like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator and many others. As you probably are familiar with colors showing differently when they are converted or sent through emails or just displaying on another monitor (So my backup held no weight).
That is where Pantone color system comes into play. For more detailed information on the company check out their website Pantone. Pantone is “is the world-renowned authority on color and provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color across a variety of industries” according too the website. You can use it to match colors when working with manufacturers locally or comes in real handy when working with outsourcing overseas for production and you can’t physically be there. They have a patented color matching ink system that is matched with codes to communicate specific colors that should be recognizable by all businesses worldwide. If you produce a clothing line with more than just black and white than you will eventually use it and it definitely works. When you have those different shades, hues of colors of ink and you need an exact match with a coordinating piece in the clothing line…pantone. It works believe me.
Ask your printer or manufacturer that you use if they are familiar with the pantone color matching system…if they say no run fast lol
