Levi Strauss Is On a Suing Frenzy About Their Jeans Trademark Now Serving Polo Ralph Lauren

Dang I’ve heard of protecting your trademarks, but everybody can’t be infringing and with everyone they are going after their court cost will probably travel over into the low millions. Next thing you know they will be going after the manufacturers that are producing the jeans for the hundreds of companies that they have pending lawsuits against!
Now they are?throwing the book at?Polo Ralph Lauren the leader in men’s fashion, but I guess they can break the rule too. Most of the lawsuits they have pending are on jean makers stealing the stitch design on the back pockets of their world famous jeans (two intersecting arcs and a cloth label) . Illustration is below:

yes…..coming this hard just looks like there cry babirs…just come with a better product…..coming this hard is not going to boost sales….plus how can U trademark a pocket…I could see the label bu not the pocket…this is nothing…if thats the case Nike should go after everyone that bit of the Air Force 1 esp Bape…yaa dig….but insted they just made a better Product….and are makeing millons instead of blowing it on court cost……everybody knows an originator when they see one…..

In a sense I agree with Levi. The back pocket Arc’s have become signature. Signature as much as the side red tag and the big E change over. Something that has become signatures on the level of Levi’s is in a sense thier branding. I wouldn’t want another company using our signature designs for their label.
It’s not fair to Levi’s.
The problem here is that levi’s sold their looms to overseas bidders. Factories oversease love to mimick styles, trends, labels from the US. Since aquisition of the looms, a ton of overseas denim companies are making “repro’s” (reproductions) of classic levi jeans. It’s not long before it trickles back to the US and US labels start to copy specific design details or attempt to get away with a repro.
If levi’s doesn’t act on these things their business will suffer. For example the popular Japanese brand Evisu was formely named Evis. This is basically a paradoy on Levi’s….hell it is Levi’s just missing the “L”. They made Levi repro’s and was called on it for not only making repro’s, but for basically copying the name. Evis changed their name to Evisu and started changing up design details as to avoid to suits.
The back pockets arc’s were modified to hand painted seagulls that are now signature of Evisu. Evisu’s painted gull move literally took them to the next level.
It’s important in branding to find yourself, your signature and to protect it and use it to your advantage.
