american apparel logoAmerican Apparel took off and is not looking back and is making moves to become a more independent company with the purchase of dyeing and finishing company US Dyeing and Finishing Inc. to make their operation less dependent on subcontractors and also added another 135,000 square feet to their manufacturing facility.

American Apparel used cash on hand to purchase US Dyeing and Finishing Inc production facility and two neighboring buildings. American Apparel has been working with them 10 years prior to purchasing their facility.

Chief manufacturing officer had the following to say about the acquisition:

“While American Apparel already operates one of the largest cut-and-sew operations of its kind, this acquisition will further reduce our reliance on contract dye facilities, allowing us to expand our product offering, streamline our supply chain, lower costs and ensure better quality control,”

Eventually American Apparel plans to bring all dyeing in-house so additional investments will be made to the dyeing and finishing facility in the near future.
