According to WWD apparel and textiles imported from China are up a whopping 22% in the month of May. China has many advantages over most textile producers including in the US. Including subsidies and currency policies that restrain the values of the yuan (Chinese money). Other things that leverage Chinese textile producers is such a large amount of cheap labor, almost immediate access to raw materials and a infrastructure prepared to export on a large scale.

China has used its many advantages to hold a great portion of the import market of apparel and textile for Americans giving them more than 37% share. As China’s apparel and textile imports rose the rest of the world’s imports declined by 5.6%. Their strength in imports were mostly shown in dresses and nightwear, plus women’s and girls cotton trousers. Either could be due to a change in trends in the China apparel market and would probably show reason if compared to the offerings of abroad designers.

I read this with interest as I read the story in the Washington Post about the restaurant in Beijing that was caught on hidden camera serving up some “surprises” to it’s patrons.

It baffles my mind as to why we buy so much cheap stuff from China. The value sytem alone is suspect.

I mean here is a restaurant that finds a way to make cardboard into pork filling and serve it up to it’s own people in bun form , and have the owner calmly dismiss the incident , by saying, ” I would not eat them myself”. This type of attitude means one thing.

The total disregard for safety and following standards , is sadly lacking in China and if you develop an mysterious rash from wearing your bargain jeans or 5 for $20 tops, think about where they came from.

    Hello,

I have been searching for suppliers[T-shirt] from China on the net for like almost a week now.But it’s really diffucult.Could you recommend a website/company or something else.
I had gotten a few companies but just couldnt make out how good/bad it is.I mean they surely don’t look as good as the ones mentioned in your industry page.
    Plz Help!!!.

China is not really a favored destination when sourcing t-shirts for US companies. Other countries have that distinction.

If you don’t feel your sources match up to the ones listed here in the industry pages, you just may be right. Those companies have been pre-screened at the very least and should be considered as a potential source. It’s all up to you at this point. Try contacting them and have a discussion with them. You will be amazed at what you can learn from a person to person conversation.
