I think this type of website will be a first timer for the Industry Page. Apparel Link is a company that has been helping the apparel and sewn product industry with building their presence online and creating virtual boutiques for clothing companies. Apparel Link offers many services, but one of their main seems to be marketing fashion online from business to consumer.

Their services start at building or rebuilding your apparel company a professional online presence with hosting as well as online marketing. Virtual Showrooms which allow designers to not only post pictures of their season offerings, but too elaborate on why the color selection, display pieces that may coordinate with each other and to become an online merchandiser of your apparel line controlling every aspect of the showroom that your visitors see from beginning to end.

Virtual boutique, which is an online destination that Apparel Link will configure it so that it functions just as a retail “Brick and Mortar” operation. They go out of their way on the website to make you understand why their services will help your clothing business operation with none of the fluff, but real genuine answers.

Other than one coding mistake on the homepage! (They’ve been building websites since 1995 :( ) They look legit and was referred to me from someone in the apparel industry. For the Apparel Link company the above services is just a taste of what they provide and if you are looking to expand your online presence they should definitely be on your list of potential candidates.

I hear a host of companies are starting virtual online showrooms. One site, several (hundred)brands.

How is a buyer going to gauge the quality of fabrics, workmanship, fit from perusing a website ? Is this a new gimmick that aims to replace genuine “brick and mortar” stores. I guess they need to try it out.

    This I have to see.

i see where you coming from on that Thom..I will see if I can get them to send me an example website of some sort…I wrote about another company offering the virtual showrooms that just signed Phat Farm on as a client can’t be too bad if they have major players like them (Owned by Kellwood)…we will see.

Many of these new companies are acting as “webstores” where they sign up labels and charge a sales commission (15%) . They cruise the shows looking for people to sign up. I think the motto is similair to we generate traffic flow to the site, they click on you, you sell them just like it’s your own site. I guess you pay them to generate activity to the site. I know buying clothese over the Internet was getting easier and more people were doing it, but I can’t see how this could aid a new designer.
Kellwood owns a gazillion companies. They will do anything to sell an article of clothing. NOt a good comparsion. These guys are looking for brands that have been established and have some capital to go this online route.

I can’t see this being of benefit to any startup or relatively new brand.

What new brand doesn’t want an online store?…maybe not a virtual showroom or virtual boutique…but they offer many services that could be of interest to anyone starting a clothing company. Thom did you check out the website? They setup websites and the fee is very affordable (Specialize in setting up websites for clothing companies)…so I would say yes they do offer services for the up and coming clothing brand.

When speaking of Kellwood I wasn’t speaking of this particular article and I was just speaking of the virtual showroom and how it can be used online as opposed to regular showroom visits…validating the showroom service…not validating the company.
