As I mentioned in an earlier post that there was an on going case between a manufacturer and a retailer disputing over prices at retail. Clothing manufacturers for years have not had much control over the price of their clothing once it reach the retail floor. Retailers will pretty much sell at whatever price moves the garment from the racks and markdown prices on items that aren’t moving fast enough. Most brands have an image that they work toward building in the eyes of their consumer and pricing and store distribution is part of that strategy. For the most part after a retailer purchases your garment the final price at which it sold was up to them…until now. Supreme Court judges ruled in the favor of clothing companies so that you may now set a minimum price at which your garment can be retailed. This move will change the relationship between vendors and retailers forever. Giving us a little bit of leverage in the situation.

Good..its about time..especially for brand just starting out because if U have a target market and a target price…if retailers go way above or way below that it can kill your line before it gets off the ground….if your target price is say $40 but they mark it up to $80 and then nobodies buying it…and then the mark it down to like $25 because it not moving…it kills all that time U spent doing market research to target a certain consumer…and then devalues your brand….
