Twenty-nine defendants were hit with multiple charges by federal authorities. With conspiracy to smuggle 950 shipments of merchandise into the U.S. with a value estimated at $700 million principally from China and conspiracy to traffic counterfeit goods.

The bust recovered multiple counterfeit brands including Nike sneakers, North Face jackets, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, Fendi handbags, and True Religion brand jeans. Four members of the party were also charged with money laundering

I guess this is definitely a step toward stopping the billions of dollars that counterfeit rings and bootleggers drain from the pockets of major apparel and footwear brands. I think counterfeiters make it harder for clothing companies to compete in the market let along competing with their own brand at much lower prices and with the internet it makes shopping for variants or counterfeit clothing that much more accessible to the final consumer.
