Just yesterday I was reading through Vibe magazine and seen an ad for Daymond Johns? (The owner of Fubu) new book! I know you?re all thinking? So what they?re company crashed and burned. That couldn?t be further from the truth Fubu has such a strong following overseas their company is still able to make millions and stay profitable. They also are part owner of a few prominent brands of today like Coogi, also smaller brands like Ether denim, and The Crown Holder Collection. The name of the book is Display of Power it is written by Co-Authored by Daymond John and by a prominent writer I can?t recall his name. The book is now for sale on amazon and I have posted an affiliate link on my sidebar. I have never read this book before being that it was just released, but judging the success of Fubu it can?t be bad at all and I?m sure he has some secrets that even I would like to know so I will be purchasing one soon.

If anyone has already read it give a review on it in a comment!

Does a DBA ensure your business name can not be used anywhere else? For example, Nike…?

  2. Fashion06 Says:

A dba is just what a person wants to register a business under instead of their own name so when you open business accounts you can put it in Nike instead of your real name like mine Fredrickus Williford. It doesn’t really trademark or copyright your name…it could maybe be evidence for an intention to use a name in a court of law.

Does his book give all the details on ownership of FUBU, his partners, and alot of stuff that is almost urban myth material?

You know the stories. Went to MAGIC, couldn’t afford a booth, took a room at the Hilton booked 2 mil in orders, advertised in the Times for financing, sold an interest to Samsung etc….

I mean if all these stories are true, then that has to be encouraging for those looking to make money at this biz. I just wonder if it all is a PR firms imagination or whether he started in the Bronx in Mom’s basement.

Tell us more Fred. I don’t think I will have time to read the book. I do admire Daymond John.

I do know that the subsidary brand of Daymond John (Fubu) called “Crown Holders’” does really good out here in the South. Texas to be exact. In a lot of independent southern rap magazines they have Slim Thug as the model (front man) of the brand. I talked to Slim Thug about it at the last car show and he told me that they paid him 30 grand for that. Not bad considering the following he has. The difference between streetwear and urban brands is that street wear brands tend to base themselves on exclusive and hard to find items. Streetwear brands are picky of what stores carry their items so the streetwear brand is not considered a “sell out.” Urban brands want their clothing everywhere and anywhere .The people who wear their clothes are more like followers , so the fastest route to success in urban wear is to find rappers and athletes who are to wear your clothing. It is easy to accomplish this if you have attractive, trendy, and quality garments.

I read the book. I must say for anyone looking to start a clothing company from the beginning stages, this is a must-read. It really is more about the drive, determination, discipline and hard work it takes to be succesful in business and being an entrepreneur. He does get into detail about how he started out, the magic convention. samsung, his partners, etc…
