There is a big stir up in New York over the zoning of the Garment District located on Seventh Avenue.
The issue is over how much space in the district should be allocated to the Manufacturing division of the Garment District. At this point in time 50% of businesses located on the Garment Districts side streets must be manufacturing related.
The trouble comes in where the landlords think the zoning restrictions are making them lose out on money that could be made by letting others (outside of the manufacturing division) come in and rent out the unused space. Many are saying that the zoning issues are outdated and need to be lifted, because at this present time they just don’t make any sense considering the current decline of domestic manufacturing and the decline of production jobs has been more than half of what it was five years ago.
They are saying most of the decline is due to increase competition from China and the current changes in tariffs and quotas on the apparel industry. Many say the domestic industry is in a never ending decline because it shows no signs of change in the near future.

I’M FROM NEW YORK AND ACTUALLY VISIT THE GARMENT DISTRICT ON A REGULAR SO I CAN DEFINITELY SAY IT IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO REMAIN ON SEVENTH AVE, BUT GIVING UP A LITTLE ROOM FOR SOME NEW TENANTS SHOULDN’T BE A PROBLEM AS LONG AS THE MAIN IDEA OF THE GARMENT DISTRICT STILL REMAINS.
ESPECIALLY IF IT ISN’T BEING USED!
