Iconix brand plans on purchasing street wear clothing company Artful dodger in the next coming weeks.

This is right off the tail of them purchasing Jay Z’s (Shawn Carter) Rocawear brand for $204 million in cash in April. Iconix says this is all part of them expanding their presence in the young mens apparel market.

This is definitely a smart move by Iconix Brand, because Artful Dodger has done in a few short years what it take many brands a lifetime to do. They have a well defined niche in the urban/streetwear market, but still their clothing is worn by many who don’t directly connect themselves with the urban market, because their clothing is not as loosely fitted and doesn’t make any direct reference to any urban myths, icons, or celebrities that represent that lifestyle through their garments. They have been able to accomplish all this and more since their 2005 launch under the guidance of former Sean John design director Scott Langton and business partner Richard Wu.
