If you are not familiar with the Marc Ecko Cut & Sew collection I wrote about the clothing line in this article One clothing lines success doesn’t guarantee another. Well I found out this morning while reading their site that one of Mike Giants signature designs from the REBEL8site was stolen by Marc Ecko cut & sew design team while also blatantly copying it in every detail, then producing it on one of their t-shirts! There is no look alike in this case it is the EXACT same design. I’m not the one to just put a company down, but someone as large as Marc Ecko cut & sew you just don’t expect them to steal a design and mass produce it without thinking there will be any backlash. They probably didn’t expect it, but this being the age of the Internet information spreads quick and that is why I am posting it to hopefully get the attention of someone of higher power at Marc Ecko cut & sew offices. Reading the Complex magazine myself (Marc Ecko also founded) I know he has love for street wear and that’s why I don’t think he has anything to do with it directly and probably isn’t even aware of the REBEL8 clothing line, but hopefully this will get his attention. This is the exact reason why many smaller companies don’t survive, because of so many biters and larger corporations who read sites online and take their designs thinking no one will notice…guess it’s time for a change. The design that was stolen is posted below:

Might I add it’s even worse, because that is a nice t-shirt!…:(

If your reading this spread the word…I’m pretty sure nobody would like this to happen to one of your companies original designs.

yea i read about that a while ago and another case of biting that has went over the top is the one found here http://ctothejl.com/2007/04/05/what-more-can-i-say/ for this story the founder of another brand A.L.I.E.N. took a pic for a magazine another brand took that image and transfered it to a t-shirt. The world of thieving and biting is getting toooooo extreme for me.

You are totally right this is how smaller brand get shut down but can u do anything about it can u copyright all your designs????????????

  4. Fashion06 Says:

sadly enough corey you really can’t copyright a design unless it makes use of your trademark like the ecko rhino…but even still you see flea markets and discount stores ripping off brands…remember the fubu shirts that had PB instead of FB!…lol

you got it all wrong. mark ecko cut and sew did not copy a rebel8 design, they imitated mike giant’s very distinctive and signature style. the two pictures you posted are the exact same mark ecko design. mike giant would never include those swirly bits in the background. his style is too precise for that kind of nonsense.

Seems like I am having a similar problems with Marc Ecko Cut & Sew line. One of his tees looks way too close to my Illustration.
I have a blog about it. Was there any action taken?
