The winners from the 25th CFDA awardswere announced needless to say Sean John didn’t take the Menswear designer of the year award. I have a lot of respect for Sean John as a clothing line and some of their designs are more thought out than some of the other big name clothing companies, but they definitely have their flaws. Ralph Lauren took home the Menswear designer of the year award for the millionth time (I wonder how many times?) but he will probably go down in Guinness?book of world record for the most award winning fashion?designer or something (He would deserve it). Womens wear designer award went to three designers?(tie) Oscar de la Renta and Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough for Proenza Schouler I wonder how that works out or happened. Accessory designer of the year went to Derek Lam. I?want mention?the other?awards, because I’m not familiar with any of the other designers!… :)?

Even though im a beginner at this im gonna say that, even if there were no flaws in either of the two designers Ralph lauren is a big name in alot of fields.I remember running around the streets as a kid with POLO on, i thought i was the man,and im just little ‘o’ me..Millions over millions love him..Like you say much props to Sean Jean though thats a bad man,and not to be racist, but it took a black man a long time to win a Oscar too..Sean john is gettin his hands in a lot stuff he’s gonna go a long way.

I didn’t like the inference Mr. Mason made to the fact that Sean John didn’t win CFDA Designer of the Year as he is black. That is absolute nonsense. Somehow he won it (menswear) in 2004, but what criteria they base the winners on I really don’t know. Maybe it is the appeal to the general masses. Over many age groups. To all the demographics.
Sean John has limited himself to a specific audience, and it isn’t broad by any means. Ralph Lauren covers a lot more bases, and is most likely why he won.

I don’t think SJ has limited themselves to a specific audience. Maybe if you look at their bread and butter money…aka all the t-shirts they sell. But they have a some really nice clothes for a man who likes to dress a bit less casually. And you can see that from their catalogues. They make very nice clothes. SJ just doesn’t have the respect that RL has because RL has been in the business for over 10X as long.

And Ralph Lauren doesn’t get himself into gunfights in midtown Manhattan either.
As for scope, when SJ is purchased by men ages 15-75, he has broadened his horizons.

Even for “Sean John” to be mentioned in the same breath as “Ralph Lauren” is BIG already, and Diddy should know this.
