I thought this was quite interesting, but at the same time out of Jay-Z’ s league at least within the fashion industry.
Shawn Carter recently lost the bidding war for the New Jersey Nets Airline Continental Airlines Arena in Meadowlands in September.
At the same time I wonder why Iconix Brand didn’t step in and make the Arena a more lucrative offer than the Izod brand which is who beat Jay Z’s offer of $1.4 million per year with a matching offer of $1.4 million, plus a marketing package in addition to the cash incentive.
I guess in this case we see strategy…and money talks. You would’ve thought they’d simply outbid him, but they were thinking smart and had a strategy along with their deep pockets. I guess Rocawear can mark this down as a marketing strategy that failed, but they at least received some publicity over losing and the whole bid within itself. Although it would’ve been a great outlet for promotion.

You cant win them all. This was a goo move by Izod by adding more than just cash by tagging a marketing package with the nice piece of change. Cant win them all

So let me get this straight. The arena is now to be named the New Jersey Nets IZOD Continental Airlines Arena or the New Jersey Nets IZOD Arena ?
IZOD, Rocawear, still sounds weird. Naming rights to stadiums has really started to get too commercial.
Pretty soon, Sunday afternoon football will be played at Tommy Hilfiger Field ? World Series at Haggar Slacks Park ?
I wonder if this will take off ?

Thom-
I was thinking the same thing! I wonder what will it be named. I don’t know only time will tell. Like the message says money talks and the clothing companies I guess were the top bidders. This is America anything is possible…lol
