After a slew of headlines about the contamination of many products coming out of china including toys, toothpaste and apparel being our concern there will be a further investigation on Chinese imported products. Read about the first investigation we wrote about China Imports Investigated For Hazardous Chemicals?First Of Many Scandals With Chinese Imported Goods .

The Governmental Affairs Committee has decided to conduct a review and investigation on the Consumer Product Safety Commission to see if they have adequate authority and resources to actually check the safety of toys and apparel manufactured overseas.

Many manufacturers seem to believe the investigation will add to already tough laws for standards and testing for apparel entering the United States so as not to endanger consumers and children.

This could be a big hit to the apparel industry considering Chinese apparel counts for $21.6 billion of imported apparel. Apparel importers fear that the Congressional debate/investigation could lead to stricter product safety regulations and requirements for all apparel, more scrutiny of cargo containers at ports and the imposition of user fees on companies that imported products from China.
