Pascal Alouidor and Derek Smith were just attending New York City Technical College as design students before starting their successful clothing venture known as Alouider and Smith named after the last names of the respective owners. When they debuted last year at the 2006 August Magic trade show convention their street wear inspired line with a urban flavor went from a unknown label with creativefitted tees to booking $80,000 in orders from buyers all around the world in just three days. Afterwards the line was mentioned n the media numerous times including Entertainment Weekly, Source magazine and other prominent outlets. Success doesn’t mean riches just yet both still hold down full time jobs and have taken on additional partners to cover marketing, branding and other duties. Expecting sales to reach the $500,000 mark in 2008 you can expect to see Alouider and Smith in a store near you sooner than later. No website was available surprisingly. I found the website Alouidor and Smith.

So those kinds of things still happen, huh? I remember reading the story of how Kenneth Cole got started (one of my faves) and of course we all know the story of FUBU making it big at MAGIC.

IDM Wear-Apparently yes…It surprised me also…I remember the Fubu story about them selling 300,000 worth out of a hotel room!

Yeah, but did you also read, that they don?t live of it yet?
So how many re-orders did they get or all the returns, maybe?
I checked the guys? stuff and it seemed ok, and I really liked the fact of the 80k @ magic… but hey… can anyone explain me why they don?t live of it then right now?
(Both have regular full-time-jobs)….
I would like to hear someone?s opinions.
Peace

80,000 in sales Craig not profit…if you want the business to grow you have to put money back into it and you need money for reorders and promotions and sourcing and research and the list goes on…80,000 will get ate up in no time.

If you look at it 80,000 really isn’t that much, but if that was their first time doing that….i would be happy, but like you said, that will get ate up.
