Christian Audigier in my opinion is the man of the moment within the fashion industry. Not only does he control some of the most sought after and want to be replicated clothing lines of the moment, but now he controls his own fashion trade show!
Christian’s name alone brings out the industry’s bigwigs within the men’s contemporary/streetwear market. I know many of you’re probably saying not another trade show, but I don’t think many startup company’s will be exhibiting at WIMYM, because booth prices start at $15,000.
The initial launch of WIMYM will include all 9 of Christian’s brands and of course : Ed Hardy, SMET, Christian Audigier, will be in full effect.
Christian being the marketing machine he is will also use the launch to bring attention to new projects he has in the works including a collaboration with Michael Jackson and Rock Fabulous, a collection inspired by Evel Knievel, and a collaboration with Dave Matthews.
All outside exhibiting brands will be hand chosen by Christian himself to complement his current brand selection.
Last year alone at MAGIC and Project Audigier’s brands raked in more than $36 million in orders, but still unpleased decided to create his own movement and continue to make the fashion industry do things his way.
Christian had the following to say about his new venture ‘When I Move You Move’:
“Trade shows don’t give to me what I expect for myself, for my customers and for my brands. So, I decided to go on my way. That has always been the key to my success—going my own way,” he said. Gripes with the placement of his booths, which he estimates cost him $1.5 million, complaints from organizers about his loud music and smoke machines, and more than $20,000 in fees for everything from nightly vacuuming and surcharges for pizza delivered to his booths outweighed the benefits of the shows.
With WIMYM, Audigier hopes to embody his vision for his brands and what a trade show should be. “When I Move You Move means ‘If you like me, come. If you don’t, don’t come,’” he said. With his typical bravura, Audigier expects to top January’s business come August, and he thinks his concept will help other brands learn from his example. “It is a different way of doing business; it is an experience. Other shows … it is boring. There are racks; nothing stands out. Buyers go where there is a crowd, and I always bring a crowd.”
