Many people email me talking about how they would like to hear success stories or big news for the independent guys in the apparel industry so here you go…don’t say I never gave you anything!
Yoko Devereaux is a brooklyn-based clothing company ran by owner Andy who refers to Yoko who doesn’t exist he made it up when starting this successful clothing line he calls a project.
Yoko Devereaux can be found at its flagship store in Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn or in one of 30 stores that carry the urban-contemporary brand. It can also be found in about 12 retailers in Japan. In as little as four years Andy has turned Yoko Devereaux into a rapidly growing fashion line.
He hopes that the new partnership with Wing Son Garments will let him focus more on the creative side and let the geeks crunch numbers. Considering the brand started as a project.
sidenote: Does it seem that the clothing companies that are real successful started as a joke or some kind of school project (Five Four) or just people fooling around and then this magical idea appeared.
Wing Son Garments is an vertically integrated?activewear manufacturer located in Toronto,?Canada with over 18 years of experience in apparel manufacturing. They purchased a 50% controlling stake in the Yoko fashion label, but the amount was not disclosed.
I think this is the perfect deal for a growing clothing company, because you have a company who will cover the manufacturing aspect of business for your company and financing isn’t such a burden anymore and you can get back to what designers do best design. Giving up 50% of my business is something I would never want to do unless the RIGHT deal came along.
Would you give up 50% of your clothing company for financial backing if the right deal came along or is it out of the question?
