Dobizo Fashion Network

This is the first of many Dobizo Network member profiles in order to get a sense of the type of business men and women we have contributing to our community.

Pierre Lavie is a clothing company based out of Florida and has been around Dobizo Network since the early days when we were just a small blog.

1. What obstacles have you faced with starting your clothing line so far?

Knowledge, Knowledge, Knowledge I can’t say it enough. It’s one of those if I knew what I knew now things. We wasted so much money on what we thought was going to sell or thought this is the way to get our product out there. I can’t say it enough before you jump right on it and printed up a few tees RESEARCH YOUR CRAFT. Some of us are not able to do the school thing and that’s cool, but you still must research. A good example is I have a box of tees at my house from our first release. Why they didn’t sell you might ask? Something so simple as wrong sizes. We didn’t know our market enough to realize that most of our consumers wore bigger sizes something that simple cost us hundreds of dollars.

2. How do you plan on making your clothing company a success?

Research, Business Plan, and HUSTLE. You need the latter above all because it will push you to do the first two.

3. How many people are behind the Pierre La Vie brand?

There are 2 including myself then there are others like artist, PR people etc.

4. What separates your clothing company from the thousands of others that already exist?

I personally always loved fashion it’s been something passed down from my grandfather to my dad to all his boys. I also come from a big family so it always hard to find clothing. Its not that I am crazy huge, but I have large shoulders the like to work out kinda guy. However all these brands make clothes for smaller guys and it is so frustrating so we will provide Chic clothing for the little bit larger guy and gal.

5. Where does your inspiration or design influence come from?

I have always been into art especially from the Renaissance time Leonardo, Michelangelo etc. Also I love expression through words sayings I like clothing with meaning it might be hard to understand what I am saying. For example one of our first shirts was a simple black tee that read in white bold print “I’ll Sleep When I Die”. That shirt was printed maybe 2 years ago I cant count on my hand how many people stopped and commended me on the shirt and said that’s what they live by too.

6. What do you feel you still need to learn about the apparel industry?

Everything I am still very new and am learning everyday. I want to do sort of walk through from the beginning to the end of design to manufacture to sales to shipping on a big scale to see how its all done.

7. Who is your target market? For example where do you see your clothing being sold and who do you see buying it?

I want our clothes a little exclusive mostly online and boutiques. Our goal is for the bigger person a little more than average size not the perfect model type to be able to shop right along with everyone else …that keeps it fashionable!

8. Finally where do you see your company in five years?

For everyone to be working for Pierre La Vie Full Time and by that time developed a following of people that enjoy the brand. We are not looking to be the next Sean John in 10,000 stores worldwide that’s not my personality. I want our clothes in the stores that look after there consumer as much as we do.
