Tendaji Consulting

1. How much capital did you start your company with?

I started with $1500.00

2. What will your company bring to the Dobizo Network?

I hope to help inspiring individuals seeking to establish a clothing line with limited funding at the same time pass along knowledge through blogs and threads about my experience within the fashion community.

3. How long has your company been established and where did it begin?

We started back in my college years in 1999. We started selling T-shirts out the trunk of our cars during football games and other college functions.

4. What obstacles have you faced with starting your clothing line so far?

What companies need to actually get started! Coming up with ideas different for what you see now in the industry. Funding had to be the obstacle that kept delaying the success of the business. Using Photoshop and Illustrator to create our ideas. We had to teach ourselves and do a little research on how to use the software to create our fashion ideas.

5. How do you plan on making your clothing company a success?

On the consulting side of the house we strive to work one on one with clients to give guidance on developing and establishing a clothing line.

Through our two house brands, Tendaji Apparel and Oluchi Apparel we hope to provide an impeccable mix of variety and style. Our motto ex•em•pli•fies “Bridging Da Gap Between Cultures”.
6. How many people are behind Tendaji?

Tendaji Fashion & Design Consulting (1 person) Tendaji Apparel and Oluchi Apparel (5 Staff Members)

7. Why did you decide to start a clothing line?

Art!! I have always enjoyed a sense of art. I really feel like I have yet to reach the potential I’m capable of through fashion with the ideas we have. I think I really enjoy wearing my own clothes knowing I have accomplished something unique. At the same time I would like to get a message across through our clothing while impacting different cultures.

8. What separates your clothing company from the thousands of others that already exist?

We try to work with independent lines looking for inspiring artist that really don’t have the funding to release a complete line, but help get them started in the right direction while marketing their ideas to the mass market through our network we have created along the way.

9. Where does your inspiration or design influence come from?

My design influences come from the 80’s and 90’s movement. I like to use a variety of colors in my designs. Back then things were different. Fashion was a movement. I like the feel of mixing a retro look with a elegant/casual look. But I must give my influences to my art teacher for pushing me to look at art in a different perspective.

10. What do you feel you still need to learn about the apparel industry?

I feel there is something to learn on a daily basis. I still have plenty of room to grow.

11. Who is your target market?

For the consulting side of the house we are targeting smaller independent clients to help build clothing lines.

We hope to provide our clothing lines to all cultures in many countries as possible while helping bridge the gap through unity. We really like the underground circuit. It’s more like the mixtape feel. And we feel once we have embraced that market completely then we will be ready for the big time.
12. Finally where do you see your company in five years?

I think we are really starting to take off and I see us impacting the market though marketing more independent artist through a social network of clothing lines. We would like to create the MySpace type network of clothing lines through networking.

13. Where can customers find your brand online?
You can find us online at http://www.tendaji.com or visit our Dobizo Fashion Network profile.
