Maybe I shouldn’t be posting this article because some of my readers have found my blog the same way! and might use my forces against me…:/ As you can probably tell I read a lot of different blogs everything from Problogger to Product Dose-which is one of my new favorites…take a look at the design of the site crazy! From them I learn a lot of ways you can market and promote your clothing websites and stores online. I read and adjust their ideas too fit my need and also come up with my own promotional ideas by trial and error.

One of the ways I create plenty of traffic to How to start a clothing line from scratchis by simply reading and participating in other blogs and forums…very simple. Once you start a clothing company you are the brand and it’s ’bout time you start acting like it! Instead of using your name use a phrase or word that describes your site or clothing line. Make sure the blog audience that you target would find your clothing brand too be of some interest to them. Most blogs that I read have a comment section where the user can insert his/her author name, email, and a url. Now in those slots I could place Fred, dobizo@dobizo.com, and of course www.dobizo.com, which (Fred) will be highlighted in the comments area for users too click and link to my blog. How many people will click on Fred’s name..maybe one, two, maybe three depends on the sites traffic. Now what I usually do is use the author name of “Fashion Industry Ceo” or what usually gets the most clicks is “Start a clothing line” or “Learn to start a clothing line” (Try it out with my blog…I don’t mind ;) ). Now if its a site that’s not within my target (clothing entrepreneurs, business men and women) I will just use Fred or mostly author name Dobizo (It usually creates a little curiosity, because the name is just WELL weird!)

Now with that said make sure you don’t just go about posting random comments on blogs like “thats cool” or “very interesting” now there is nothing wrong with that sometimes. For the most part communities seem to listen too the people who contribute interesting conversation or information in their comments and will seek your input on certain topics. You can tell who is knowledgeable on a subject just by reading comments on specific topics…those users will have readers clicking on their links more often. Add value to the community and more users will most likely click on your name and see what your brand is about.

Forums- Pretty simple place your link to your clothing site in your signature and a pic in your avatar (that’s eye-catching) and contribute to the community. Have popular topics on the forum and people will usually click through to your topics more often and view your signature in the process. at the same time. Hypebeast contributed a lot of traffic to my blog in the beginning…because I posted popular topics and gain trust in the community first. You can do this many of ways by replying with informational answers to others post when they ask questions or need feedback. Don’t sign up and just start posting links, because you will most likely upset the community and ruin your rep before you get one.

Go build some relationships in How to start a clothing line from scratch forum :).

Fred
