Boosting sales- there is no better time to do it then holidays by creating promotional incentives to drive new customers and get the usual shoppers to spend even more. Even the big guys like Nike are in on the gamble releasing exclusive Valentines day sneakers as they do every year for women and sometimes men.

Brands like Johnny Cupcake have made it big off of taking popular themes, monuments, or holidays and flipping it to their advantage. In October many clothing companies had special sales one reader of Dobizo blog actually sent me an email about how all t-shirts were only $10.31 until Halloween a simple strategic move like I mentioned will entice customers to spend more and they appreciate when you help them save. That’s where word of mouth and self promotion lives.

What I’m talking about is nothing new just not taken advantage of by the smaller guys that don’t have the big budgets or cash flow to give away thousands in promotional products, but that doesn’t mean you can’t join in on the fun.

Below are 5 Proven techniques that will help you boost your sales during the holidays…Valentines in particular:

Free Shipping

This is probably the most obvious or most frequently used method on holidays by clothing stores online. Some offer free shipping on orders over $[insert value] and/or free shipping on any womens garments for the sake of Valentines day. That may make the difference between somebody ordering from your company or the next.

Holiday Themed Shirts

Make shirts/tops that are themed specifically for the holiday. Of course you should price them slightly lower or higher than your regular selection and they should be limited edition your true followers will pick them up. Companies like Johnny Cupcakes and The Hundreds businesses thrive off of limited edition and holiday themed t-shirts.

Give Away

If rewarding all your customers is not in the budget then one big prize can do the trick. Depending on your budget this can be a rather large or small prize, but only customers with orders placed on the week of Valentines Day would be entered to win.

Incentives To Spend More

I know we’ve all seen the cheap watches or cologne samples you can get from department stores when you spend over $100 or more on a product. Give away a small gift for free. In this case a small box of chocolates or gift certificate could easily do the trick, but if you want more bang for your buck, then this is also a way to cross-promote new products your business may be launching in the future like maybe accessories, hats or under garments you could use it as sort of a tester to see your customer base response. Don’t go overboard and spend too much also to speed up the process or entice your customers to make a decision even faster add a *While supplies last* to the promotion.

Buy One Get One Free/Half Off

Very familiar promotion that would work great for Valentines day would be to offer customers buy one garment get one free or half off for your sweetheart. This can work pretty much on any holiday…I mean who doesn’t like FREE.

These are ways I’ve personally seen or used myself.

What are you doing to take advantage of Holiday sales? Any ideas come to mind after reading this post if so share your thoughts in the comment area.
