This is a guest review for Alpha Mart Trade Show which is a bi-annual trade event in Atlanta, Georgia at the Americas Mart.
Never one to shy away from an opportunity we attended this year?s Alpha Mart trade show occurring in Atlanta between October 14-17 2007. We?ve only attended one other trade show prior to that, so we were looking forward to the experience as well as the southern change of scenery.
It was located in the heart of downtown Atlanta at Peachtree Street, specific to Peachtree Center. Our focus was the urban menswear portion of the show which ran from Sunday, October 14 to Wednesday, October 17th. We registered and picked up our ID?s the day before, on that Saturday, and attended with the intentions of taking it one day at a time, so we did not rent a booth. The selected site of Alpha Mart, is a privatized building, sort of like a large mall, open to buyers and retailers throughout the year. The location was a nice size and urban menswear took up the entire first floor of the selected building. Many of the up and coming labels along with the established ones could be found there on the first floor. Located higher up on the twelfth floor, some of the more established urban labels maintained office suites for conducting business. They included Akademiks, Baby Phat, Ecko, Parish, Rocawear, Sean John, Tommy Hilfiger, etc. Many other independent fashion labels maintain location there in the building and cater to multiple markets which include women, children, etc, all for the purposes of fashion.
The environment was laid back and you could tell that many of the people conducting business there were those that had prearranged meetings with potential buyers and retailers. There didn?t appear to be many folk just wandering about.
The upside is that you can meet a lot of fellow entrepreneurs, learn, and network with a lot of people. Alpha is very professional and is very beneficial to the attendee who is about their business. If you plan on attending, be sure to prearrange appointments as much as you can it?ll help you make the most of your time.
Special thanks to Dobizo Network and the online fashion community, thanks for the support.
If any of you have been to the Alpha Mart please share your experience and/or post questions in the comments.

[…] Alpha Mart Trade Show Review […]

Not to knock the ALPHA Show, but I have attended that show many times since 1996. That show just has not been able to bring in the volume of buyers that it used to.
In comparison the AAE show seems to be a much better experience and the traffic is good too, which also seems to by slowing down. Parking is free also. Atmosphere is more open.
(FYI: AAE and ALPHA used to be one show, they split due to increase in rates at the Atlanta Apparel Mart). Now the rates at AAE have exceeded what the Mart is charging, which makes it tough for everyone.
-Two shows with split traffic
-some retailers don’t show up to one of the shows
-out of towners have to spend double airline tickets, hotels, etc.
What to do in an already slowing economy?
