Found this article through a link to my blog http://www.dobizo.com and there was an interesting article on licensing your designs to a manufacturer so that you could skip the headache of manufacturing clothes yourself and focus on promoting and designing. I don’t know if any of the readers have a well-known recognizable name that would benefit from licensing, but if not it’s a good read anyway. Should You License Your Designs
Some of my thoughts on licensing your clothing designs:
You can reach an audience that your clothing brand might have missed out on producing your own clothing line.
All around financing of your clothing line is better.
Steady cash flow from different sources
Increased product variety (license sunglasses, shades, purses, shoes, colognes, perfumes, clothing accessories)
Increased brand awareness
A recognizable name licensing your business has indirect benefits for your clothing as a brand
Have any of you ever given any thought to licensing your name out to a manufacturer?

I’ve debated this multiple times with myself. I like the idea of diversifying, but staying true to your core is important.
People want exclusives, and when you look at things on a worldwide scale achieved through the internet, there is enough of each niche market to create a solid/strong user base AND stay true to your creative direction.
Produce more items in limited quantity, and the gateway to doing this is through collaborations; finding other brands that specialise and create something together; don’t outsource to an anonymous accessories/perfume/sunglasses producers, protect your brand and your integrity and you will retain your customers who built your success.
