Beginning where I left off on the other article which is Part one of developing business partnerships.
If you do decide to go into a partnership make sure that they complement your attributes and skills. If your best areas are design and marketing then your partners should be stronger in the areas that you lack in. Like most designers you may tend to be shy and don’t like the aspect of going door to door to talk to buyers and getting turned down more than you will get an order. So if that sounds like you than it would probably be in your best interest to search for a partner to handle the sales & promotions side of your fashion business.
I tried the partnership thing for a whole year and it just didn’t work out for me. A lot of times I found that when you assign tasks you end up doing them YOURSELF! That’s why it is good to search a persons background thoroughly and get to know them a little before you plunge head first into a partnership. Most people just like the sound of going into business not really knowing what to expect…but what they don’t expect is hours upon hours of work, a lot of stress, dedication and dealing with another personality who is equal to you while making decisions. People who come aboard may have their own agenda and are not really there to look out for your best interest, but their just wanting to make a gain for themselves than jumpship when the going gets tough.
Once you decide on a couple of candidates lay down the ground rules for the partnership. Let them know up front what to expect and not to expect. Make sure that they know what they are getting themselves into by describing the position to be filled and what kind of workload they can expect and the compensation (if any..maybe just a guarantee of future revenues). In the end it is a business so a well laid out contract could be in order unless you just trust the person a 100% and if so their probably a friend or family member and you already know my thoughts on that see Part 1.
Part 3 Responsibilities among partners in the workplace….

I’ve owned 5 companies. Still run 3. Go into business by yourself and if funding is an issue, get investors. Call your own shots. Trust me !!!
