Create repeat business with a long-lasting first impression

If every customer that purchased one of your garments never told another person about your clothing line or never made a repeat purchase you couldn’t build a sustainable business. Maybe or maybe not?
You guys for one know when you purchase a product and you like it. If that business continues to maintain a certain aspect that you liked about the product, whether it was the product quality, appearance, or packaging you will continue to support it. At least until another business comes along and creates something better or your preferences change and it is no longer of any need to you. I mean it makes plenty of sense that is where your niche is created, by filling a void in the marketplace otherwise you will just enter the market with a similar product and I hope you are one hell of a competitor.
Whatever will make your product appealing make sure it stands out in your promotional efforts, so your consumer knows what you have to offer and where your brand stands in the marketplace. If you offer superior quality let them know, a lifestyle let them know. When a customer comes in contact with your clothing brand, why will they remember it or mention it to a friend? That’s where you have to get your creativity brewing? Here are some ways to make a strong impression with what your brand offers? (quality, lifestyle, appearance).
- Creative packaging-This is a part of a clothing business that is often over looked. If is not done by many new companies, because they look at it as an extra expense, but think about the affect it will have on your clothing business in the long run. It will create word of mouth and a memorable experience for your consumer, plus it will separate your brand from the thousands of other clothing lines. Think about Undercrown Clothing each of their t-shirts come in a cereal box!..now who would forget a shirt that comes in a custom designed wheaties cereal box? You don’t even have to go that far it can be something like a distinctive logo or symbol on each of your shirts package or screen printed on the polybag your shirts “should” come in.
- Consumer Lifestyle/Outlet-Creating an outlet where your customers can connect with the owner or lifestyle of the brand. A blog is the easiest way and it is free if you host it on a Wordpress, Blogger, or Movable Type account and you can connect your blog with an online store to your clothing line. It is like a meeting place for your clothing lines consumers to keep them up to date with the happenings of your clothing brands lifestyle and they will come back for more and more everyday. With so many ways to reach your consumers there is no excuse. Create a myspace, or do local in store appearances, where you sell your brand and can connect personally with the consumer read more on in store sales. I think the hundreds owe a great bit of their success to the lifestyle they have created around their brand through the blog and that’s is why consumers continue to support them (repeat business).
- Creative Labels or Hangtags- When most brands just design their custom labels with their labels logo or a slogan on the hang tag, you can take it a step further. Make sure it is something a consumer will remember or is interesting enough to repeat to a friend. I remember purchasing a Five Four shirt and how their tag said something like “This shirt was made from tender, love & care and we hope you get laid in it” then it had slots for your name, time, and the place you got laid. Now I’m not saying talk about sex…lol, but make it memorable. I remember telling friends about the brand the next day. The Chilly-O brand has a rubber patch on the front of each shirt with a safety pin through it bearing the logo as remembering the old days when your mom would attach a note to your shirt with a safety pin. When they sent you off to school, the doctor or where ever you were going and it represented something important…in this case it is the Chilly-O brand that is important. It is that little something extra or special that will have your customer coming back for more or mentioning your creative clothing brand to a friend or two. Never know who they might be friends with or who you touch with your message.
The three I mentioned above are just some of the many ways of creating a lasting first impression, which could turn into repeat business or a feature in a magazine…you never know what catches an individuals attention. Whatever you get your customers accustom to make sure your consistent with your offerings. Whether it is your great sizing, creative tags, or custom packaging. Quality must not lag from one season to another and neither should your creativity.

I think that the outlet is very important. At least in my case - if it does not look appealing, I never get in to see the products.

I think this is really interesting. I’d be interested in hearing more creative examples of how companies differentiate themselves via packaging & creative labeling, etc.

Once again… just a tiny nugget of information that you decide to share has given some insight on a strategy I had definitely overlooked.
