In the apparel industry a clothing company must have one or more persons working toward the common goal of producing their line of garments. Whether you hire one firm to handle cut n sew and another to put the finishes including trims and another for patternmaking plus packaging they are all contractors. A contractor could be a sole person or a business that goes into a contract or agreement with your clothing company to provide services at a specified price (Hopefully a price you negotiated ;) ). The process of finding contractors is sourcing, which we also have a daily definition on, because they are both a working process. Sourcing and going into an agreement with a manufacturer that believes in your clothing company and willing to work with you is essential to your success as a small business owner and could later lead to them financially backing your clothing company or forming a mutually beneficial partnership.
