My branding efforts are finally paying off. Considering Dobizo doesn’t have the terms fashion, clothing, apparel, industry, t-shirts, patterns, sewing, or any other apparel industry related term in the url I have to say we have faired pretty well with our competition and continuous growth throughout the year.

A lot of the growth is due to the name and the branding efforts I have put in to make Dobizo synonymous with “starting a clothing line” or “fashion industry” I think I have done a good job with the term “starting a clothing line” and the fashion industry is definitely taking notice. The reason I say this is because when you thought of Dobizo when you first read this site or if you were referred by someone you probably asked why did I name the site this or where did I get the name or what does it mean…probably made you curious. Now that we have wrote hundreds of articles and coined ourselves as “How to start a clothing line from scratch” people have really started to notice considering that the search term “Dobizo” is bringing in hundreds of visitors daily by itself so people are definitely spreading the word and talking about our community.

At first I thought naming Dobizo was a mistake because it would slack in search engine terms at first, but then I thought about the branding efforts many companies put in just for some other slightly different named site to take advantage of your hard work because the url’s are similar or the name of the site. Search engines don’t know too much of the difference between if I had named this site fashion ceo or fashion-ceo’s because most likely it would show my site first sometime and my competitor depending on what search engine you’re using, plus visitors wouldn’t know which was which from a referral! When a person refers Dobizo there is no doubt about it that they will get to the right site when they type it in the search engine and I definitely think this will be beneficial in my future efforts of expanding it as a brand into other medias and outlets.

You should think the same when choosing a name for your fashion brand. Don’t just think for today, but for how long that name will be relevant hence names like “Phat Farm” considering it was named after a popular term in the nineties and the name isn’t really relevant and without such a high profile celebrity I don’t think it would do as well as they did. Also about how unique it is, because there are so many clothing lines with similar names and you don’t want someone talking positive about your clothing company only for another similar named brand to take the credit or vice versa it could be negative and your company would be pinned with that connotation.
