I was just wondering why a lot of the designers that read the Apparel Blog decide to start a clothing line. From my experiences people have many reasons financial rewards, business decision, or like the title states Fashion Is Your Passion. Not saying there is anything wrong with the other reasons, but the title is the reason for my journey.

I think with any business you start whether it is starting a bakery or starting a consignment shop we all know it takes determination and a lot of passion to keep it moving when the going gets tough. From my experiences starting a clothing line successful clothing line was one of the most difficult things to do in my life especially in this day and age. From financing to designing to contracts to trade shows to collections (pain in the @ss) being an entrepreneur takes its toll on you mentally and physically. Having that passion for what you do will only keep you going when all is dark and seems like there is no hope. I for one remember getting up going to work everyday only to dread every second of me being there. That?s one of the many reasons I started my first businesses and it wasn?t in the business of fashion. Before succeeding I failed many of times and still think I have a long way to go considering I am still young compared to most professionals in the field, but I know a lot and I for one am not afraid to share my successes and failures with the world.

I made my mind up on what I wanted to do as far as business when I asked myself one question. What is something that I can do and do well? I can dress and I like clothes so why not start a clothing line! Considering your career is something you are probably going to be doing for the rest of your professional days or for a very long time you should make this decision after weighing your options. I also knew that I wanted to make a good amount of money and live a comfortable lifestyle, but at the same time love going to work. From the standpoint of the entrepreneur running the business it takes a lot of discipline to get up everyday and go to work without being made by your boss or by the fact that you?re BROKE. It?s not like your going to be rich starting a clothing line, because many brands take years to turn a profit this depends on each individuals case of course. There are some that shot to the forefront of their market in a years time, but find their self to be nothing but a memory a year later (see fad). I?m pretty sure most of you want to build a line that will survive the test of time and list up there with the likes of Ralph Lauren and Donna Karen to Sean John and Ecko. It is not an easy task, but with know how, a plan, and last but not least passion your wildest dreams can be accomplished and your current job that you dread is their to motivate you everyday!

Hi Ceo, I am wondering how you define “Successful”, you say you “made it”, still having a way, but saying you consider your clothing line “successful”, could you please define this closer to your dear readers, I am sure me and others would like to understand when you can consider yourself “successful”. Let us know in your case, you seem to have made it… are you driving a Ferrari, or are you living in a villa, how many pieces a month are you selling? Or what is the definition of yours having a “successful” clothing line…?
I would like to know where we have to get to to become a “successful cltohing line” as you state.
PS: Still waiting for the gold foil reply. ;)
    Keep it up fella!

I decided to start a clothing line because i wanted to be express myself through threads and sneakers. My brand is called ” Hussel Premium” it is inspired by my up-bringing. I was raised around pimps, strippers, pushers, boosters, used car salesman, pick pocketers, con-artist… No matter thier Hussel, they were always fresh to death. What ever your clothing reflects, don’t let it be a copy of the next brand. Define yourself, let it rub off in your brand. Set the next trend. Travel. See the world. Take different parts of what you see throughout the world. If you only stay in your city and are inspired by what you see at the mall, get out the clothing game right now. Go to the smaller trade shows. The Magic is over priced and most appointments with stores are already set. Hit the more specific trade shows for urban wear. Be humble, but be great.be gangsta, but be poised. Use the haters for inspiration. If you are a street wear brand, get advice from the streets. Have all your ducks in a row…. reps, factories, stores, trade shows, etc….. Make sure your shit is F#@%king awesome !!!!

“What ever your Hussel, keep it Premium”
