Asks:

I was wondering, how do you go about making a catalog for your clothing line? What should it have and do you have any samples?

I’m not sure how many clothing company’s really do catalogs..unless of course you mean a look book, which is basically a preview of the season to come.

I’m disappointed Robert, because a quick search on Dobizo would have gave you a few articles about lookbooks.

Actually here is a link to SNAC clothing’s online look book. I think the main thing is being creative and not going with a traditional format that is outdated and boring in this article I spoke about Eklectik Genes lookbook and how they used a magazine format to catch buyers with their 2006 collection.

There is also a Daily Definition for fashion look book and an article on creating a memorable look book that you can reference for more information.

As far as what to include in a look book is totally up to the clothing manufacturer, but I could tell you what I would include in mine:

  • Photos or illustrations of the available garments
  • What sizes
  • Wholesale and suggested retail prices
  • Models in the actual clothing so they can see how it fits to forms
  • Contact information website, email and how to go about placing an order

As an option you could include what trade shows your clothing line will be attending and who is wearing your clothing line to possibly persuade the buyer to come by your booth at a trade show and let them know what type of people are wearing your clothing.

Anybody else doing anything creative with their look books or any ideas?

That’s a good question that I’d like to know the answer too as well.

This is information that I needed to read again. It helped me last summer/fall putting together my promo materials.
