Yeah I know this site about clothing lines, but the sneaker industry is just as challenging if not more and the two trades are one in the same.

I found this great article on How to become a shoe designer from an online resource.

Some of the points it touches on:

  • How you don’t have to have a degree, but some form of skill and persistence is required.
  • That business skills make up for about 80% of the success rate of a designing your own shoe line.
  • How it is actually easier design-wise in the shoe industry, because things seem to stay the same as far as trends are concerned and more designers are concerned with putting their own twist on classic styles.
  • Women’s footwear is the most lucrative with more than $20.5 billion in sales up 3% from the year before.

So take your time and read over the knowledge being shared over at Style Careers. Let me know what you think about the article it is pretty basic, but their is also a good amount of statistics and need to know information for any would-be shoe designer.

I have been looking everywhere for a company to do custom shoes for MindTrix.
About 4 years ago I had placed orders with a company called Customatix, which durring the whole process kind of dissapeared, never to be heard from again, thank gawd I never gave them any money.

Then I heard that the place that does the custom Vans was not too far from where I lived and all I had to do was supply my own fabric and they would make custom Vans for me, kind of a collaboration.

Does anyone out there know where or how I can do this? It must not be THAT hard, because I see very small companies like mine come out with shoes all the time.

Did you ever hear from anyone on starting you own shoe line? What type of shoes are you planning to produce? Are you designing them yourself? Have you done a business plan? Legalized your company - LLC, Inc?
Please let me know what information you received that was useful
    Thanks
