It?s very important to know who your customers are because in order for a business to exist their must be a viable customer.
Once you have identified your customer you must then decide on how you?re going to reach your targeted market whether it is through retail or via the internet. How you?re going to sell is just as important as identifying your target customer. Knowing the habits and likes/dislikes of your customer can give you an edge in an already saturated market place. For instance (example only) a plus size clothing brand might choose to venture with an online retail shop first because people who wear their clothes may feel more comfortable shopping online due to the privacy (the quality of being secluded from the presence or view of others) of it. If you do choose to go the internet route there is a lot of work to be put in. First there is no automatic foot traffic where as if you were to place your clothing in an already established retail store. Remember your brand is new so you will have to make consumers aware of your brand. The monthly cost is not expensive to run a small website and you would make more money per garment being there is no middle man (the retailer) taking a cut out of your profit. You would have to have a safe place to store inventory and make sure all orders are shipped out in a timely manner. Unless you design websites paying for a web designer is costly. I recommend using Godaddy website tonight and build your own website for less than $12 and you can add a shopping cart with Paypal or just use godaddy?s integrated shopping cart. Online is very competitive because the internet plays such a big part in most businesses of today whether it?s an online store or just informational website for the clothing company. No matter if you decide to go online first or straight too retail having visibility online is a must for any company. Watch out for Part 3 of the series!

Iv’e read this article before but didn’t comment, but as i read it again, i like it more than the first time. Why not set up a line on the internet and do a little retail, and if the internet blow up- withdraw everything from your retail once your contracts are up…if that makes sense.
