Deciding to sell to your first retail location is a big step for any would be apparel company. Remember when selling to stores at first when your brand has no recognition they will try and offer you consignment. I?m assuming you already know what consignment is if not refer to this ENTRY. If you do decide to go with consignment make sure the terms with the retailer are clear and precise. You don?t want to lose money and you also don?t want too come off as a rookie. There are many ways of selling your product when starting a clothing company. Some of the ways are more grassroots, but what better way to start than from the ground up. If you know of or attend a college setting up in front of schools is a great way to introduce your product to a target market. There can also be prospective customers on the job. The ways stated are great ways to start when there is not enough sufficient capital available. You can go these routes until demand grows and you are able to launch the business on a larger scale. Contacting local retail shops is the best way to begin growing your line. Starting local than expanding will make your business easier to run from an entrepreneurial standpoint. It?s easier because you already have traffic coming to the retailer so selling in an already established store, college, church can guarantee some kind of sales and if you targeted your consumer like previously stated it will spawn the right sale. You don?t want to get in too deep, start by setting up and shipping to a couple of accounts. Once you feel comfortable with a few add more accounts and expand.

Selling to retailers can also be done by attending tradeshows. This is more expensive, but if you?re at the right show it can be well worth your dollar. In order to sell to stores you must have set wholesale prices and minimums on orders. Set wholesale prices and minimums all vary with each apparel company depending on their markup, profit and order volumes. Having a professional line sheet also helps when attending tradeshows.Look out for Part 4
