Before starting any business you must first identify who is going to buy your product or service. The same concept applies when starting an apparel line?.its not all just designing and selling to stores.

Most fashion lines start with the all American basic t-shirt?.so it may seem your customer could be the kid next door, but its just not that simple. People buy certain garments for all type of reasons comfort, brand name, religion, design, or they relate to the product in some form or fashion.

So first of all before identifying your customer you must know what market of the fashion industry you are going to enter. For example a junior?s line-Baby Phat, street wear line-Palis, urban wear-Akademik, plus size clothing-Lane Bryant, lingerie-Victoria Secrets etc. Once you know your market identify customers by looking at who wears some of your favorite brands. Example: Baby Phat is for young girls, ages 15-32, middle income, sizes 1-15 they also offer plus sizes. Go out and do market research on your specific customers know their spending habits and how they like to shop (internet vs. retail store)?.Check back for part 2 later today!
